Soror Cato was a very important woman and charter member of my Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. This is my home chapter where I became a Delta and I will miss her very much. My prayers and blessings are with her family and with our sisterhood. Evangeline L Stanford
My heartfelt sympathy and prayers are extended to the family. Soror Cato was a model of grace and dignity. I was her "special" when I pledged in 1983. I wanted to be like her! She was intimidating, but also caring.
Ms Cato was my 4th grade teacher at Scarboro Elementary School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. I remembered her intellect and focus. She always emphasized the never give up and work hard. Following desegregation in the mid 1960's she was one of the many teachers that began the patchwork of sharing her zeal for education to black and white students at integrated elementary schools. I met Soror Cato when I moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She was a charter member of the Oak Ridge Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. We shared many occasions together as Sorors and friends. I missed her when she moved to Nashville. I send my condolences to Soror Cato's family.
Soror Cato and I were roommates when we attended the 75th National Convention of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in 1988. We had a great time. She was a "no nonsense person " who wasn't afraid to ask the hard questions. You have my deepest sympathy.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
