Mary Elois Patterson Murphy was born in Nashville, TN, on July 27, 1948, to the late William Augusta Patterson, Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth Seay Patterson. Mary departed this life on March 29, 2026.

Mary was employed by South Central Bell/BellSouth for 27 years. She was well-respected by her employees and colleagues. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach, reading, online shopping, cooking, and watching football, game shows, and soap operas on tv.

Mary was baptized into Christ at a young age at the Lawrence Avenue church of Christ. As an adult she was a beloved member of the Scott Avenue church of Christ. In the latter years of her life, she was a member of the Hart Street church of Christ until her death. She loved to pray, sing hymns, and meditate on God’s word.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Henry Lee Murphy; her brother, William Patterson, Jr.; and her sister, Rosa Bradley.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted daughters, Cris (Solomon) Stephens, Erica (William) Kantz, Vanita Murphy, all of Nashville, TN; stepsons Howard (Donna) Scott, Hattiesburg, MS, Reginald (Hope) Brown, Peachtree City, GA; loving grandchildren, Navia Stephens, Nicolas (Kayla) Murphy, Glenn Kantz, Lauren Kantz, Terrance McGee, Trey Scott, Tyler McGee, Nicholas Brown, and Triniti Scott; loving siblings, John Patterson, Sr., Beulah Mitchell, Lorraine (Samuel) Otis, Brenda (Willie) Otis; devoted cousin, Margaret Sherrill; brother-in-law, Thomas (Evelyn) Murphy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear spiritual family at the Hart Street, Scott Avenue, and Lawrence Avenue congregations.
