Lyra Mae Dumas
You know how there's always that one person in your life that says what they mean and means what they say? The person who would give the very shirt off their back if you needed it? The person you could count on to follow through on ANY undertaking or go out of their way to do a favor?
Mrs. Lyra Mae Dumas was that person. She loved her family and friends. Mrs. Lyra Mae Dumas was born on January 13, 1945 to the late Mr. John Wesley Huling and Mrs. Jesse Mae Huling. She departed this life on January 12, 2019 surrounded by her family.
At an early age, Lyra Mae became a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Hamilton, GA. She served on the Starlight Ministry.
Mrs. Dumas was a dedicated employee of her 1st job at National Linen Service in Columbus, GA. Lyra Mae along with her sisters Joann and Mary opened a beauty salon named "A Touch of Soul". Lyra Mae decided she wanted to reach a new goal by working at New Horizons, she was a faithful member for 20 years. She retired from New Horizons.
She was married to her wonderful and devoted husband Andrew Lee Dumas for 36 years.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother: John Wesley "Honey" Huling Jr.; sister: Joann Dumas and her 1st husband: Willie Clyde Smith.
Lyra Mae's loving memories will always be cherished by her husband: Andrew Lee Dumas; six children: Dwight (Deborah) Smith, Rita Ross, Vernon (Beth) Smith, Marquita (Travis) Echols, DeLisa (Fred) Smith and Marcus (Erica) Dumas; one brother: Joe (Helen) Huling; two sisters: Mary Jean Hudson and Elizabeth Culverson; 18 grandchildren: Jayla Turner, Karmelo Smith, Fredrick Smith Jr., Miranda Smith, Karter Lee Echols, Lyrice Smith, Bria Smith, Alexia Smith, Vernon Smith Jr., Jalisa Dumas, JaNyce Dumas, Marcus Dumas Jr., Laquita Alexander, Tamaiya Robinson, Brittney Smith, Camry Smith, Dominique (Tristan) Thomas, and Arik Allen; 9 great-grandchildren; a special friend: Patricia Perry and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
