The family of Mr. Ambro A. “Pops” Chatman, 73, of Childersburg sadly announce that a home going celebration in his honor will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Eric Richardson will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023.
On Sunday, January 29, 1950, Samuel and Mae Lou (neé Jones) Chatman of Talladega County, AL welcomed a son, Ambro.
Ambro was a long time member of New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education at Phyllis Wheatley and R. R. Moton. Throughout his professional career, Ambro was employed with Wehadkee Yarn Mill, Avondale Mill and Nemak Alabama. During his leisure time, Ambro found enjoyment in watching football, westerns and The Andy Griffin Show. When it came to football, Alabama was at the top of his list. He also found pleasure in attempting to show off his skills on the grill.
Ambro leaves behind his wife, Annette Keith of Childersburg, AL; four daughters, Carol (Ronnie) Twyman of Childersburg, AL, Rochelle Chatman of Sylacauga, AL, Cheraton Huff of Birmingham, AL and Regina Twymon of Childersburg, AL; five sons, Ambro Chatman, Jr., Kareem Chatman and Christopher Wilson of Sylacauga, AL, Eric Fuller and Rodrickius Keith of Childersburg, AL; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; six sisters, Carolyn McMillian and Susie Chatman of Talladega, AL, Jeannetta (Michael) Kirksey and Brenda Minnifield of Sylacauga, AL, Jackie (Daniel) Schmelling of Clarksville, TN and Lafreida Taylor of Anniston, AL; six brothers, Terry Chatman of Talladega, AL, Anthony Fuller of Ft. Knox, KY, Eddie Fuller of Alpine, AL, Joe (Pearlie) Ashley of Sylacauga, AL, William Ashley, Sr. of Childersburg, AL and Nathaniel (Ethel Mae) Stamps of Alpine, AL; a special caregiver, Elizabeth Chatman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In the early hours of Sunday, November 5, 2023, Ambro was granted rest from his labors. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Samuel and Mae Lou Chatman; a daughter, Angie Thomas; and thirteen siblings, Samuel Chatman, Jr., Vanessa Chatman, David Chatman, Larry Chatman, Jack Ashley, Charles Chatman, Sarah Ann Twyman, Willie C. Chatman, Lawrence Chatman, William Chatman, Gloria Jean Ashley, Betty Spencer and James Chatman.
