A memorial service for Mr. Andrew James Moton of Talladega, 70, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Frankie Moton will officiate.
Andrew James Moton began life’s journey on Monday, August 21, 1950, to the union of Eddie Lee Moton and Annie Cole Moton in Talladega, Alabama.
Andrew accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a child and united with Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He completed his education in the Talladega City Schools before serving in the United States Army. He had been employed at Talladega Foundry and was a trained heavy machine operator.
On the evening of Thursday, March 25, 2021, Andrew received the Lord’s call to begin his eternal journey at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. He began on a path that had been traveled by his parents, Eddie and Annie Moton; one sister, Maggie Heflin; and a three brothers, Eddie Lee Moton, Jr., Nelson Moton and John T. Moton.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Timothy (Debra) McKinney, Michael Lee (LaToya) Hill and Alisha Holtzclaw; a host of grandchildren; six sisters, Willie Mae Moton, Annie Moton, Henrietta (Alvin) Turner, Cynthia (Jasper) Curry, Classie (Edward) Jennings and Constance Hughes; one brother, Frankie (Kay) Moton; a special friend, Catherine Denise Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
My heart is saddened whenever I read that one of our former students from the old Eastside Elementary School has passed away. The years have not erased the memories of trials and tribulations of being a new teacher with such wonderful students and parents as were Andrew and his family. Although our students were many, Andrew was one of those who stood out and is easy to remember. I remember well how he would hurry home for lunch and never return for the evening classes. Although, it has been more than fifty years ago, I shall never forget the students who gave my professional life its start. Andrew was a special one. May he rest in Peace.
