Obituary For Curtis Johnson
Rev Curtis Johnson was born January 1st, 1949, to the late Herman Johnson and Rebecca J Morgan. He departed this life on Monday, July 27th of 2026. Rev Johnson was educated at Lanier High School and graduated in 1967. He later went to Chandler School of Theology and attended Emory University.
He worked at Big Star Foods as a butcher/meat cutter and at K&J Building Supplies in Lineville, AL. He was called into the ministry in 1975. His first assignment was the pastor of Pleasant Grove UMC/Bethlehem UMC (Ashlin Cricut) from 1976-1989. He later moved to St Paul Triana from 1989-1999 and then to Haven UMC/ New Bethel from 1999-2008 until he retired. He also served as Dean of Pastors of North Alabama, Chaplain of RMC Hospital in Anniston, Alabama and Tyson Foods in Ashland, AL.
Curtis was united in holy matrimony to Yvonnia M. Johnson on March the 10th 1971. To this union, there were three children.
Curtis was preceded in death by his wife Yvonnia; his granddaughter, Kaneisha; his father, Herman; his mother, Rebecca; his stepfather, Bobby L Monagan; his brother, Herman Johnson; his sisters, Taeresa Farrow and Patricia Johnson.
Curtis leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Dexter Martin (Huntsville, AL) and Curtis “Rod” Johnson (Carrollton, GA); and one daughter, Jovita Johnson (Carrollton, GA); two brothers, Ricky Johnson (Evangeline) and Bobby L Johnson; and a sister, Vicky Johnson; six grandkids, Alexis Dorsey, Chassity Martin, RJ Johnson, Faith Martin, Curtis O Johnson and Johari Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Raiden and Logan. Curtis also leaves Godchildren, Lisa A Simmons, Valerie Ford, LaCheryle F. Swain, Shirley Elaine Burton, LaTonia F. Storey, Jackie Daniel, Desmond Ford, Xavier Leonard and Lakeisha Ford. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Rev. Curtis Johnson was a wonderful pastor, wholly dedicated to God and the Christian ministry. He served tirelessly and passionately throughout his life. He was my friend for forty years, and I thank God for the privilege of knowing him.
