Dorothy Ann Garrett—affectionately known as "Dot Dot"—was born on August 7, 1944, in Fairfax, Alabama, to the late Estelle and Jim Baker. From the very beginning, she carried a warmth that could fill a room, a strength that could steady any storm, and a love that was unwavering. She was a woman of wisdom, resilience, and deep devotion, always standing firm in her beliefs while wrapping those she loved in the safest embrace. Dorothy was a force—strong yet tender, tough when needed, but with a heart that overflowed with love. She believed in honesty, hard work, and above all, family. If she loved you, she loved you with her whole heart—fiercely, unapologetically, and without reservation. Whether through her words of wisdom, her warm home-cooked meals, or her unwavering guidance, she made sure those around her felt cherished, supported, and cared for.
Dorothy was educated in Lee County, Alabama, where she attended Rehobeth High School. She later dedicated many years of her life as a residential care specialist for Lane Co. Apartment Management, taking pride in creating warm and welcoming homes for others. But her greatest joy and most important work was the love she poured into her family.
She was a devoted wife to Eddie R. Garrett, a loving mother to Tony Dianne Ramsey, Estella Lorraine Ramsey, Sam Ramsey (Penny Ramsey), Susan Ann Garrett, and Tabatha Atuahene (Michel), and a proud, steadfast matriarch to her twelve grandchildren and host of great-grandchildren. She was their protector, their greatest supporter, and their safe place—a love like hers could be felt in every hug, every kind word, and every sacrifice she made. She found beauty in life’s simplest joys. She adored flowers, appreciating their quiet strength as they bloomed. She found peace in fishing, cherishing the stillness and reflection it offered. Alabama was always home, the place where her heart felt at ease, surrounded by memories and the warmth of her roots. And of course, there was her beloved poodle, Max—not just a pet, but family, a constant companion whom she adored and cared for deeply. Dorothy’s legacy of love, faith, and unwavering strength will forever live on in the countless lives she touched. She is now reunited with her beloved parents, Estelle and Jim Baker, and resting in eternal peace. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit remains—in the love she shared, the wisdom she passed down, and the family she built.
