Dorothy was born in Talladega, Alabama, on Sunday, June 22, 1947, to Y C and Emma Reynolds.
Dorothy was an active member of St. Campbell Missionary Baptist Church, her faith was the cornerstone of her life.
A proud alumna of Phyllis Wheatley High School, Dorothy was a devoted teacher’s assistant at Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega, Alabama, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring. Her passion for education and helping others left a lasting impact on her colleagues and students alike.
Her love for solving crossword puzzles, chatting on the phone, and trying new foods brought joy not only to herself but to all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children: son, Pervis (Vanessa) Reynolds, Sr. of Jonesboro, GA; grandson, Pervis Reynolds, II of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Kem (Curtis) Embry of Talladega, AL, and Carla (Mose) Miller of Detroit, MI. Her cherished family brought immense joy to her life.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her brother, Rudolph (Janet) Reynolds of Alpine, AL; sisters, Clarice (Freddie) Keith and Lola Fuller of Alpine, AL, and Rebecca Parker of Cleveland, OH. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Jean Reynolds of Washington, DC, Theresa Reynolds of Alpine, AL, and Sandra Reynolds of Talladega, AL. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including a dear friend, Mae Lois Keith, who all will miss her greatly.
A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Dorothy departed her earthly home on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents, YC and Emma Reynolds, and her brothers, John Eddie Reynolds, Robert Reynolds, and Jefferson Reynolds.
Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Dorothy Swain's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
