Obituary For Dr. Brenda Calhoun Snipes

Funeral service for Dr. Brenda Calhoun Snipes, 80, of Lauderdale Lakes, FL will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at DeForest Chapel-Talladega College. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Snipes will lie in state at the chapel one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

I am Sheila Hjelmervik FKA: Sheila Easley. My mother was Ruby Easley FKA: Ruby Calhoun. She was Brenda's father Joe Calhoun's younger sister.

I have lost touch with my cousin and her sisters for 2 or 3 decades, but I remember so many treasured time. I remember Dec.1968 visiting Talladega, Alabama. Brenda and Walter were at Uncle Joe and Aunt Ruth's house and was VERY pregnant.

I remember when my mom hosted the Calhoun Family Reunion in 1987 and Brenda came. She was so fine in a really cute black and gold dress at the reunion's dinner dance.

We may have not had a lot of contact as we aged and I live in Southern California while Brenda and her sisters live in the South Eastern or Midwest part of the US; but memories are definitely with me and never forgotten.

Rest sweetly in the arms of JESUS CHRIST, cousin! My prayers to her surviving sisters (Helen, Gwen, and Princess Diane); her husband and nuclear family; and all grieving this huge loss. I know you loved her, but GOD loved her more and took her home.

Deepest Condolences to the families. May God grant you all the strength, comfort and peace needed; and May you find solace in the memories you have shared together.
