Obituary For Elisha Jones
Born January 24, 1946, in Alpine, Alabama to the late Maggie Chatman Jones and the late Mr. Cleve Jones. He was the 15th child of seventeen children.
He attended Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg, Alabama and later received his HS Diploma through Stratford Career Institute. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the male chorus and remained a faithful member until his passing. He also sang with the Male Chorus at Mt. Zion CME Church in Alpine, AL.
Mr. Jones was best known as the founder of “The Jones Four,” a gospel group composed of himself, his children, and his nephew. Together, they traveled across Alabama sharing their faith, even appearing on the popular Country Boy Eddie television show. Nothing brought him greater joy than playing music with his children and grandchildren. A talented musician, he taught his children how to play the guitar and drums. In the 1980s, the family released a gospel record featuring the songs “God Will Be There” and “God’s Love,” both written and produced by Mr. Jones. To his family and community, Mr. Elisha Jones was a true genius who earned numerous accolades throughout his lifetime. An author, he penned the book Man’s Close Attachment to Trees.
Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, he mastered his crafts through correspondence courses, earning a diploma in Gardening and Landscaping from the Stratford Career Institute, as well as certificates in Basic and Advanced Herbology from the Lil Bit of Sunshine School in Fort Worth, Texas. These studies earned him the affectionate title of the "Herb Doctor" across Alabama and neighboring states. His deep devotion to studying nature, trees, and the healing power of plants ultimately paved the way for his own long and healthy life.
A man of exceptional work ethic, Mr. Jones served his community in law enforcement and worked for several textile companies during his career. He eventually retired in 2007 from Georgia Pacific in Talladega, Alabama, following 30 years of dedicated service.
Mr. Jones married the love of his life, Della Ruth Barclay, on June 2, 1968. They shared over 58 years of beautiful marriage. From this union came four children: DeAnthony, Debra, Belinda, and Tyrone. Mr. Jones’ prized possessions were his grandchildren: Kavondrea, Derrian, Derron, Devon, Kyler, Katelyn, Kaden, Caleb, Asiah, Dylan, Mason, and Tiffany. He loved supporting them in all their accomplishments and took great joy in spending time with them and being the comedian of the family, always telling jokes about his experiences growing up with his 16 siblings.
Elisha Jones departed this life on September 20, 2026, at Baptist Health Citizens Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Maggie Jones,11 siblings and his daughter-in-law, Alisia Jones.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and precious memories to be cherished by; his caring and devoted wife, Della Ruth Jones; his children, DeAnthony (Connie) Jones, Debra (Victor) Griffin, Belinda (Dewayne) Keith, and Tyrone Jones; his brothers, Taylor (Mattie Mae) Jones, Walter (Lilly) Jones Sr., both of Talladega, AL, and Emmanuel Jones, Buffalo, New York and two sisters Claudette Jones, Columbus, Ohio, Jeanette Nelson, Buffalo, NY. He leaves a legacy with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

To our Dearest Uncle Elisha (AKA Uncle Trouble) you will be missed! You was such an amazing man with great love for family, faith and music. A man of thought, researcher and arborist with a greenhouse, an author and more. Someone that was full of stories and laughter.
