On May 30, 1935, Aaron White and Lue Ella Graham White of Talladega, Alabama welcomed one of their children, a daughter they named Ella Lee, to their family.
Mrs. Nix was a lifelong member of Africa Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a matron and because of her love for singing, she naturally sang in the choir. She was educated in the schools of Talladega County and concluded her education at R. R. Moton High School. After completing school, Ella found employment with the Bemiston Yarn Mill and later served as a resident hall director at Talladega College.
Ella Lee was fortunate enough to find love twice during her lifetime. In her early years, she married the late Julius Henry Curry. Some time after becoming a widow, Ella married the late George Nix. Spending time with family and friends brought her great joy, but none greater than becoming a mother to two children, grandmother to four grandchildren and great grandmother to eight great grandchildren. In addition to the love shown to her family and friends, Ella Lee shared her love by volunteering her free time at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. Her warm smile and sassy personality was welcoming to patients and their families.
In the early hours of Sunday, March 6, 2022, the Lord made a visit to see Ella Lee at the home of James and Cathy. There he found her tired frame peacefully resting and decided it was time for her to be rewarded for her good and faithful service. Time had passed, but the family had not forgotten those that had traveled before her including, but not limited to: her husbands, Julius Henry Curry and George Nix; parents, Aaron and Lue Ella White; four brothers, Leroy White, Nathaniel “Nase” White, Sylvester White and Aaron White, Jr.; and two sisters, Laura A. White and Lillian White.
Ella leaves behind her legacy: her loving children, Cynthia Elston of Talladega, Alabama and James (Cathy) Curry of Augusta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Yolanda (Titus) Best, James Curry, Jr., Johnny R. Elston, Jr. and Nicole J. Curry; eight great grandchildren, Titus Jr., Johnnya, JaKayla, Nevaeh, Shy’on, Jabre, Avah and Talon; one sister, Bettye (Thomas) Pugh of Talladega, Alabama; a special niece, Andrea Polly Truss of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and friends that will whom will truly miss her in their life.
