Gene Lamar Simmons began life’s journey on Monday, November 15, 1971, to the union of the late Mr. Bobby Gene Simmons and the late Mrs. Juanita Shears Simmons in Talladega, AL.
Gene spent his entire life in Talladega attending Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was educated in the Talladega Public Schools and had a rewarding career building cabinets at Masterbrand of Talladega. His passion for automobiles was not only a hobby but also a way he connected with those around him, often sharing his expertise and genuine love for mechanics.
Gene is survived by a loving family who cherishes his memory deeply. His daughter, Chante' Williams of Talladega, AL, and his son, Ma'Khail Simmons of Alpine, AL, will always remember their father as a guiding light in their lives. He was a proud grandfather to Kyler Stewart, Kymbree Stewart, Sincere Holtzclaw, Key'or Garrett, and Malayah Spilman.
Gene leaves behind his sisters, Jeri (Lazareth) Twyman, Mary (Darrell Hutchinson) Simmons, Wanda (Brian) Parker, Angela Simmons and La'Tasha Scales of Talladega, AL, and Melissa Garrett of Birmingham, AL; and his brother, Willie Otis (Telisha Moore) Garrett of Talladega, AL. Gene had a special friend in Shirley Ross who was a valued presence in his life.
In his extended family, Gene is remembered by his stepmother, Patricia Simmons, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who mourn his passing.
Gene was predeceased by his parents, Bobby and Juanita Simmons, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in their eternal home.
Gene peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Gene Simmons will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue through his family and the countless lives he touched. His love for life and his family remains an enduring testament to his character. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love that he so freely gave to others.
I remember Gene as being a real good friend and listening to me jumbo ramble about nonsense.

WOW, Lamar will truly be missed by all the lives he touched during his path. Mr. Simmons always had a smile on his face alone with a kind word. I've been knowing him for many years you had a friend in him but once you made him mad you would face him on a whole different level. Your assignment here on the Arthur has been completed. May God give his family and friends strength and comfort to endure the emptiness of their loved one. To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.... R.I.P. Mr. Gene "Lamar" Simmons....
