Obituary For Geraldine Garrett
Geraldine was born on a rare leap year day, February 29, 1948, to Donnell and Elizabeth Embry Cunningham.
Geraldine was a faithful member of Rushing Spring Missionary Baptist Church. A proud graduate of Talladega County Training School in 1966, Geraldine built a long and successful career as a seamstress at Palm Beach Corporation. In her spare time, Geraldine enjoyed sewing and cherished every moment spent with her family and friends, who were her greatest treasures. Her gentle spirit and boundless love will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and family: her daughters, Lisa (Sedrick) Wilson of Talladega, AL, Romunda Ragan of Tuscaloosa, AL, Aquanette Collins of Talladega, AL, Aquanetta Leonard of Oxford, AL, and Kimberly Chatman of Chicago, IL; and her son, Eli (Mauriel) Wilson of Moody, AL. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, who were the special joys of her life.
Geraldine was blessed with a close-knit family of siblings who survive her, including her sisters, Betty (Wesley) Simmons of Talladega, AL and Judith (Julius) James of Lincoln, AL; and a brother, Herman (Jackie) Cunningham of Danville, IL. She was particularly fond of her special niece, Tamika Cunningham, among a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
Geraldine Garrett, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the age of 78. Geraldine is preceded in death by her cherished spouse, Garrett Eddie James; her father, Donnell Cunningham; her mother, Elizabeth Embry Cunningham; her sisters, Bertha Cunningham, Elsie Cunningham, Carolyn Chatman, Janice Swain, Sheila Cunningham, and Barbara Cunningham; and her brother, Nathaniel Cunningham. Her legacy of love and kindness will remain in our hearts forever.
