Born on Wednesday, May 18th, 1949, in Alpine, Alabama, James spent his entire life deeply rooted in his beloved hometown.
Educated in the Talladega County School System, James pursued a career in construction, proudly serving as a dedicated and skilled worker with Labor Local 559. His commitment to his craft and strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, James had a passion for playing cards and dominoes, often enjoying lively games with family and friends. An enthusiast of outdoor adventures, he also loved riding 4-wheelers, finding joy and freedom in the open air of Alpine.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Geraldine Garrett; his loving children: daughters, Kimberly Chatman of Chicago, IL, Lisa (Sedrick) Wilson of Talladega, AL, Romunda Ragan of Birmingham, AL, Aquanetta Leonard of Oxford, AL, and Aquanet Collins of Talladega, AL; and son, Eli (Mauriel) Wilson of Moody, AL. He will be dearly missed by his sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his devoted siblings, sisters Beatrice Dates of Alpine, AL and Everline (Ricky) Best of Talladega, AL, and brother Charles (Alice) Garrett of Alpine, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by his kindness and humor.
James Eddie Garrett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10th, 2025, at the age of 76. James was preceded in death by his parents, James Park Garrett and Scharlie Garrett; his sister, Hattie Morris and his brother, A.J. Garrett. Although their loss created a void in his life, he carried their memories with him always. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with those who have gone before him.
James's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds and the power of community. His warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those around him will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved him.
