Janice Elaine Scales Randle was born on July 29, 1947, in Gadsden, Alabama, to the late Willie Scales and Lizzie Mae Montgomery Scales. She peacefully entered eternal rest on September 18, 2025, joining her loved ones in Heaven.
Affectionately known as Jan, she accepted Christ at an early age and carried her faith with her throughout life. After moving to Chicago, IL, she and her family became devoted members of New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Alonzo Bell. With a voice that could soothe hearts and lift spirits, Janice sang faithfully in the choir and often directed, leaving behind melodies that still echo in the hearts of those who heard her.
For 36 years, Janice worked with dedication at the Social Security Administration in Chicago, IL, serving as a Benefits Authorizer. She treated her work with care and integrity, building lifelong friendships with her colleagues along the way.
Janice had many interests; she love collecting coins, solving puzzles, fishing and watching her favorite game shows, but her greatest passion was always her family. She was a shining light, a safe place, and a source of endless love. Her presence made every gathering brighter, and her laughter filled every room with joy. Family meant everything to her, and she made it her mission to keep loved ones close. Whenever family travelled to Talladega, stopping to visit Janice was a treasured tradition, because her warm hugs and tender spirit made everyone feel at home.
Her life’s journey was a beautiful testimony of love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. She gave generously of her heart, always putting others before herself and carried a gentle strength that inspired everyone around her. Though her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, the love she shared and the example she set will live on in her family and friends forever.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Vera O. Cook and Shirley W. Scales Billings; and one brother, Audrey Earl Scales.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Benita (Joseph) Bulliner of Matheson, IL; god-daughters, Nina Wright-Stacker and Victoria Cook; her devoted brother, Harolan J. Scales of Talladega, AL; her loving sister, Camellia K. (Marshall) Barnes; her adoring nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends who will forever carry her in their hearts.
