Obituary For John Paul Heath

Born on Thursday, November 26, 1936, to Lessie Calhoun Heath and Jim Wiley Heath in Alpine, AL, John lived a life filled with dedication, love, and a commitment to his family and community.

John dedicated his life to Christ at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church of Alpine, Alabama where he remained a faithful member. In later years, John attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

John's life was one of service and dedication. After graduating in 1956 from Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg, AL, he embarked on a career as a maintenance mechanic. Over the years, he worked for reputable companies such as Catalytic, Inc., where he spent 12 years, as well as Georgia Pacific, Beaunit Mills, and Alpine Bay. Beyond his professional life, John found joy and fulfillment in farming, hunting, fishing, working on cars, and cooking his famous fried pies and sweet potato cobblers. He was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying the Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Auburn, and girls' softball.

John is survived by his loving family, which includes: his daughters, Felecia (Sammy) Garrett of Sylacauga, AL and Eugenia Heath of East Orange, NJ; his son, Darius Heath of Alpine, AL; his grandchildren, Christian Garrett and Maya Garrett of Sylacauga, AL, Kaitlyn Turner and Jalen Turner of East Orange, NJ, and his bonus grandchild, Dominique Lawson of Alpine, AL. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Makhi Turner-Stokley, Rachael Turner-McMorris, Rajon Turner-McMorris, and Royalty Turner-McMorris, all of East Orange, NJ.

John is also survived by his beloved sister-niece, Grace Hampton of Acworth, GA; sisters-in-law, Mildred Heath of Ashland, Johnnie Mae Heath and Mary Heath of Talladega, AL, Dorothy Cunningham of Detroit, MI, and Deoliver Turner of Alpharetta, GA; and brothers-in-law, Walter Frazier of New York, NY, and Otis Ragland of Talladega, AL. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, including his special friends, Levi Chatman, Catherine Vincent, Glen Swain and A. C. Garrett who will miss his warm smile and generous spirit.

John Paul Heath left this world on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Heath; his parents, Jim Wiley and Lessie Heath; and his siblings, K. C. Heath, George Heath, James Elisha Heath, Julius Calvin Heath, Walter Heath, Sr., Eddie Howard Heath, Wiley "Pig" Heath, Sr., Flossie Heath Frazier, Area Lee Heath Adams, Delilah Heath Nunn, and Marie Heath. Other family members who predeceased him include his nieces, Margaret Jo Heath Nix, Doris Heath White, and Michelle Heath; and nephews, Julius Calvin Heath, Jr., Gregory Nunn, and Willie Jim Heath.

John Heath's memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him. He will be remembered as a devoted family man, a hard-working professional, and a friend to many. His life was a testament to love, hard work, and dedication to those he held dear. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him, and forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
