Obituary For Mary Alice Moore

On August 10, 1950, Mary Alice Moore was born in Pell City, Alabama to Macon Moore and Rosa Nell Gover Moore as the third child of their family. Diagnosed with polio from her youth, Alice would have to learn to navigate life with the assistance of leg braces, crutches and later a motorized, electric wheelchair. Despite this, Alice never allowed her physical limitations to determine the fullness of the life she would live. Her perseverance, independence, determination and, most important, her faith, became enduring parts of her life story.

Alice was a proud alumna of the illustrious St. Clair County Training School, graduating with the Class of 1969 - the last graduating class of the segregated schools before school integration in Pell City.

Determined to continue her education, she later graduated from Alverson Draughon Business School in Birmingham, Alabama.

Throughout the years, Alice worked in a variety of positions that all demonstrated the independence that characterized her life. Her career included serving as a secretary at Fort McClellan Army Base, working in funeral service, spraying for the City of Pell, greeting at Wal-Mart, serving at the voting polls and working with the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency. Alice was always active and involved in the community she called home.

Most importantly, at an early age, Alice accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and began a lifelong journey of faith and service. She was blessed to serve in so many capacities to many ministries from Bloominglight Baptist to Lighthouse Bibleway to Evangel Temple Deliverance Center and finally Life Family Worship Center under the leadership of her nephew, Bishop Donald J. Gover.

Without question, one of Alice's greatest gifts was her voice. She loved to sing and was often called upon to minister in both choirs and as a soloist. For a time, she also served as a musician to many churches in her area. Alice shared her gift with countless people and was an anointed singer whose voice blessed thousands throughout the years. She considered her singing more than a talent - it was a ministry and an expression of the faith that remained at the center of her life.

Those who knew Alice will remember that she was funny, lively, and truly blessed with the gift of gab - Alice was a talker! If you settled in for a conversation with her, you might as well get comfortable because there was always something to discuss. She enjoyed a good laugh and certainly wasn't afraid to speak her mind. You rarely had to wonder what Alice was thinking—she would tell you!

Alice poured her love into the generations that followed her. She played an important role in helping raise her nieces and nephews and to them she was not simply aunt, but an important part of the village that helped nurture and shape their lives – she will always be remembered as uniquely Alice.

Alice peacefully slept away on Tuesday September 8, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, Macon Moore; mother, Rosa Nell Gover Freely; stepfather, Robert Chester Freely; brother, Terry Gene Moore, sister-in-law, Peggy Harris Moore; sister, Emily Moore Scales; and nephew, Alvin Scales.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Pattie Gover Sanders of Pell City, Alabama; a host of beloved nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; along with extended family, church family, and friends whose lives were touched by her presence, faith, laughter, and unforgettable voice.

She sang. She served. She loved. She spoke her mind. She made people laugh. And above all, Alice lived life with a spirit all her own.
