On January 25, 1951, in Talladega, Alabama, Lou Ella Cunningham gave birth to a son, Milton Harrison Cunningham.
Mr. Cunningham was taught early in life by his grandparents, Reverend Frank and Ethel Cunningham, that having a solid foundation in the church was of great importance. Having had this foundation laid for him by his grandparents, Milton established his early relationship with God at Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie Joe Lewis. He later united with Africa Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend William Threatt. Milton was a graduate of Talladega County Training Schools. Sometime after graduation, Milton began a career with Floyd & Beasley quickly learning that he loved driving 18-wheelers. When you did not find him behind the wheel, you could find him in his yard, detailing his cars and trucks and watching Alabama football. On August 4, 1979, Milton took the hand of the former Connie Twymon in holy matrimony and together they established a home and raised a family in the Mardisville community of Talladega.
Milton leaves to mourn his passing: his wife of nearly 44 years, Connie Cunningham; four daughters, Rhonda Cunningham of Talladega, Alabama, Vanessa Cunningham and Robin Cunningham of Sylacauga, Alabama and Sharail Cunningham of Childersburg, Alabama; three sons, Steven (Denise) Stokes of Youngstown, Ohio, Dontrail (LaTanga) Cunningham of Navarre, Florida and Corie Cunningham of Talladega, Alabama; twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian (Robin) Adkins and Laterrel “Toni” Scales of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers, Lawrence Scales and Michael (Crystal) Mitchell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; four special sons, Jerry Seymour, Mike Page, Shaun Cunningham and Demetrius Cunningham; one special daughter, Lisa Seymour; a special brother, Roderick “Chopper” (Judy) McElrath; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Cunningham found rest from this earthly body on Friday, July 14, 2023. He was welcomed to eternity by his mother, Lou Ella Mitchell; grandparents Rev. Frank and Ethel Cunningham; and five siblings, Maurice Cunningham, Gregory Scales, Patricia Scales, Vanessa Cunningham and Mary Frances Walker.
