Obituary For Rev. Johnnie McCullough

A celebration of life for Reverend Johnnie McCullough, 86, of Talladega will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Reverend McCullough will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the funeral home.

Reverend Johnnie McCullough was born on February 24, 1938. He went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2024, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home.

Reverend McCullough dedicated his life to the Lord at a young age. In 1968, he was called in the ministry at Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church in San Diego, California. During his time in ministry, he served as associate minister of Bayview Baptist Church in San Diego, pastored Star of Bethlehem in Chula Vista, California, associate minister of Mt. Cleveland Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega, Alabama, assistant pastor at Rising Star Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama and associate minister at New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church in Alpine, Alabama.

Johnnie was educated in Talladega County where he was a graduate of Talladega County Training School. He furthered his education, receiving an associate of arts degree from San Diego City College. He attended San Diego State University and Birmingham Baptist Bible College earning his Bachelor of Arts degree.. He served his great nation by enlisting in the United States Navy retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.

Reverend McCullough is survived by his son, Johnny L. Jackson (Alisa Square); a granddaughter, Ashley J. McCullough; a sister and caregiver, Annette Ledford; three brothers, Warren (Gwen) Turner, Steve Turner and Bobby Turner; a special nephew, Malcom Vincent; caregivers, Joann Turner, Derric Turner and Erin Turner; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie McCullough, Sr. and Lillie M. Turner; a son, Johnnie C. McCullough; brothers, John Roberts McCullough, James C. McCullough, Horace McCullough, Mitchell McCullough and Henry L. Turner; sisters, Lizzie M. Bramitt, Lillie Laura Turner, Hattie Barclay, Mary Christian and Almeta Turner; and a special uncle and aunt, Aaron and Lucy Turner.
