A celebration of life for Mr. Roderick Lavosky McGinnis, 42, of Vincent will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Liberty Christian Church, Harpersville. Reverend Theoangelo Perkins will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. Mr. McGinnis will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the funeral home.
Roderick Lavosky McGinnis was born on March 11, 1981, to Caravella Posey McGinnis and the late Bryant Scott in Pell City, Alabama.
Mr. McGinnis attended and was baptized at Coosa Valley Missionary Baptist Church when he was young. As he got older, he started attending Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cropwell. He attended school in Shelby County and was a member of the graduating class of 2000 of Vincent High School. After completing high school, Rod began a career at Acme Brick.
He was a country boy and did country boy things like fish and deer hunt. Rod really had a love for basketball and softball so much so he took on the task of coaching with the local recreation league.
Roderick leaves to cherish his memory: two children, Jackson McGinnis and Ja’Kalynn McGinnis; his mother, Caravella (Ory, Jr.) McGinnis; two sisters, Candis Posey and Shenique Moore; three brothers, Reginald McGinnis, Bryant Moore and Derrell Jackson; a special friend, Amanda Ray and her three children, Kayla Maxwell, Alysha Maxwell and Phoenix Maxwell; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and too many friends to name.
