Roy Clifton Millender passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Jacksonville,
Alabama. Born on August 14, 1944, Roy lived a full and impactful life, enriching the lives of
those around him.
Roy was a lifelong resident of Talladega, where he attended Westside High School, graduating
in 1965. Continuing his education, he attended Gadsden State Community College and Central
Alabama Community College, demonstrating his commitment to learning and personal growth.
His career spanned many years in environmental services, with his last position held at the
Talladega City Board of Education. Prior to this, he had worked with dedication at Crown Textile
and Avondale Mills. Roy was a man who took pride in his work and the relationships he built
with colleagues.
Roy served his country honorably in the United States Army, where he was awarded the
National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, the Good Conduct Medal, one Overseas
Service Bar, and the Sharpshooter designation. His military service was a testament to his
strength and character, attributes he'd carry throughout his life.
A man of diverse interests, Roy loved hunting, shooting pool, and reading the Bible, activities
that brought him joy and solace. He held these hobbies close to his heart, often sharing them
with family and friends.
Roy’s legacy continues in the lives of his devoted wife, Helen Millender, of Talladega, AL; his
daughters, Krystal Millender of Talladega, AL and Shawana (Antrion) Howard of Munford, AL;
his sons, Karlos Millender and Martin (Priscilla) Taylor of Talladega, AL. Roy leaves behind 17
grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who will forever hold dear the values and stories
shared by him. His siblings, Doris (John) Chatman of Talladega, AL, James (Juanita) Wilson and
Herman (Brenda) Millender of Talladega, AL cherished his presence. He also leaves a host of
nieces, nephews, cousins, including a special nephew, Antonio Daniels and special cousins, Milton Millender and Sebron Harmon; and
other relatives and friends. His special friends, Bobby J. Welch, Levi Chatman and Mansfield
McGhee, were a significant part of his life and memories.
Preceding Roy in death were his loving parents, Roy R. Millender and Alice Millender; his
cherished son, Derri L’Bret Williams; and his brothers, Myron Millender, Brent A. Millender and
Lysander Millender. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends,
yet his spirit and influence endure.

To my God Mother Helen and family . I don't know where to begin but to say how sorry I'm. He was the sweetest , kindest , loving God Father and would do anything he could to help you. I miss him already . He was my Daddy's best friend . We love you all .
During this time of loss, I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your father's spirit will forever shine through you, and his love will continue to guide your path.
To Mrs Helen and family. Words can't express the honor he was due. He was really a legend. He was one of my grandad's best friends. So you know he was Someone special.Someone who always can give you a smile and even had you laughing really hard. He was a pillar of the Mardisville community, and will be deeply missed. I even named him the President of Mardisville because he really did truly care for his community and the people who live there. So we won't be sad today but yet celebrate him for every accolade he accomplish. We will meet up again one day on the other shore. RIP to Mr. Shanky!!!!
