Obituary For Rubertha Hardy Kelley

A celebration of life for Mrs. Rubertha Hardy Kelley, 64, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Kingston Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Byron White is the pastor and Reverend Charles Garrett will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in held in Kingston Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Kelley will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at the funeral home.

In Talladega County, Alabama on November 26, 1957, Herman Lee Hardy and Arie Garrett Hardy welcomed one of their eleven children, a daughter that came to be known as Rubertha.

At an early age, Rubertha committed herself to being a servant of God and a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ. Following in the footsteps of her family, she became a lifelong member of Kingston Missionary Baptist Church. Rubertha attended schools in Talladega County graduating from Talladega County Training School and continued her learning at Central Alabama Community College. On July 14, 1978, Rubertha became Mrs. Terry Gene Kelley and to this union three children were born.

In an effort to help support her growing family, during Rubertha’s lifetime she was employed with Talladega National Forest, Alpine Bay, Maids and Tyson Foods. Being one of eleven children, the importance of family was instilled in her. Cooking and being able to fellowship with family over a meal was a continued tradition among many and Rubertha enjoyed doing her part to contribute to any occasion. One bond that particularly held the Hardy sisters together was their love of music. Their singing together helped to share love, mend hearts and ease the pain of those who listened.

It was on the morning of Tuesday, February 22, 2022, the Lord saw that Rubertha had gotten tired and called her home to rest. Waiting for her in eternity were her parents, Herman and Arie Hardy; a sister, Brenda Hardy; and two brothers-in-law, Emmett Kelley, Jr. and Felix Kelley.

Memories of Rubertha will be forever cherished by her husband of over 43 years, Terry G. Kelley of Alpine, Alabama; her three children, Kevvie Kelley of Frederick, Maryland, Tyree Kelley of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Koncheita Kelley of Alpine, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Wilshawn Keith, Noah Keith, Charles Swain, Tyree Kelley, Jr., Saferia Kelley, Kevvie Kelley, Jr., Reese Kelley and Tobias Kelley; one great grandchild, Kingston Kelley; six sisters, Britt Hardy and Cynthia (James) Bush of Alpine, Alabama, Vickie (Jesse) Hawkins of Birmingham, Alabama, Gwen (Michael) Garrett of Alpine, Alabama, Vivian (Ronnie) Scott of Talladega, Alabama and Mary (Lacey) Wilson of Ashland, Alabama; a special sister, Sallie Whiteside; three brothers, Herman Hardy, Jr., Warner Hardy and Reverend Luransa (Yolanda) Hardy, all of Alpine, Alabama; four sisters-in-law, LaVance Parris, Anita Kelley, Daisy Armbrester and Cora Nell Smith; three brothers-in-law, Charles Kelley, Lloyd Kelley and Edward Kelley; three best friends, Darlene Morris, Carol Lewis and Flora Swain; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
