Obituary For Shirley Anne Shepherd

Funeral services for Ms. Shirley Anne Shepherd, 56, of Talladega will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2022, at Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the New Maryland Church Cemetery. There will not be a public visitation for Ms. Shepherd.

On November 10, 1966, Shirley Anne Shepherd began life’s journey in Talladega, Alabama to the parentage of Marietta Shepherd and Johnny Ashley.

Ms. Shepherd is a lifelong member of New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church where she worked in such positions as an usher. She was a graduate of Talladega High School. After completing her education, Shirley enlisted the United States Army on November 2, 1987, and served honorably until September 30, 1988, when she became a member of the Alabama National Guard. During her professional career, Shirley has been employed with Talladega County, the City of Talladega, Talladega County Regional Childcare Corp and lastly the City of Childersburg until her health began to fail. During her downtime, Shirley found joy in reading, shopping and decorating. She had an eye for spotting “the good stuff” that made her visits to yard sales successful.

Shirley leaves behind her three children, Brutica Shepherd of Talladega, Alabama, Shatoya Shepherd of Montgomery, Alabama and Bruce (Kayla) Shepherd of Talladega, Alabama; her mother, Marietta “Sister” Shepherd of Talladega, Alabama; her five grandchildren that were her heart’s joy, Carson Hannon, Aubre Shepherd, Alani Shepherd, Kannon Truss and Aiden Shepherd; three sisters, Pamela (Samuel) Garrett of Vincent, Alabama, Sherry Ashley of Tampa, Florida and Evangela Ashley of Spring Hill, Tennessee; one brother, Johnny A. Smith of Columbia, Tennessee; a very special niece, Brandi Shepherd; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On December 29, 2022, Ms. Shepherd began resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior and reunited in eternity with her father, Johnny “Jack” Ashley; her grandmother, Sarah Shepard; and a brother, Johnny Hale.
