On Friday, October 24, 1947, in Sylacauga, Alabama, George Clisby and Earline Underwood Clisby welcomed a daughter to their family they named W. Elizabeth. Although W. Elizabeth was her given name, most that knew her personally called her Jean. At an early age, Elizabeth committed her life to Christ and united with Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating to Talladega, she united with her husband and made her church home Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She served as an usher, sang with the choir and worked on the cooking committee. Jean was a graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School. She dedicated many years of service to Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Childersburg and was a loving caregiver to those members of the family that were in need. Jean loved to cook and bake; hence her reason for decided to use her culinary skills as part of her worship. She also did not mind getting a little dusty by playing softball, but when she cleaned up like most women, she loved to shop.
On Wednesday, June 23, 1993, Ernest Harmon, Jr. took Elizabeth’s hand in marriage and they remained in holy covenant until his passing on Friday, March 1, 2019.
On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, Jean was called home to be with her Lord and Savior and was welcomed by those loved ones that went before her. Among those loving family members that were waiting with open arms to greet her was her husband, Ernest Harmon, Jr.; her parents, George and Earline Clisby; one son, Edwin Jacinto Pope; a sister, Louise Glass; and two brothers, John Clisby and George Clisby.
Elizabeth was loved and will be greatly missed by her three sons, Frederick (Lanette) Pope of Childersburg, Alabama, Terrance Pope and Jalen Whetstone of Talladega, Alabama; one stepson, Terence (Marshelia) Harmon of Gulfport, Mississippi; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Faye Crum and Maude Wilson of Sylacauga, Alabama, Frances Townsend of Childersburg, Alabama and Mona Keith of Sylacauga, Alabama; one brother, Frank Clisby of Childersburg, Alabama; five special friends, Bridgette Patton, Fannie Simmons, Louise Davis, Camille Buckner and Regina Shepard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
