We are the neighbors across the street in Nashville. Mark and JoAnne McKibben. We loved Benjamin like a Father and aways called him dad. We first met them when we moved in 14 years ago. What a wonderful man and such a person to look up to and aspire to be like. We will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Genora. They were such a great couple meant to be together. Our condolences to the rest of the family. Love you all. Oh one other thing I had cancer in 2009 and when my hair gew back I had him cut it for the first time. Mark and Jo
As the father of Benjamin Franklin Flagg's only two grandchildren - Candace and Justin Benjamin - I extend my sincere condolences to his devoted wife and daughters, Genora, Janet and Iris. Deacon Flagg's unwavering positive attitude and consistent Christian life inspired all of us. I will never forget how structured he was - which included taking the family dog to the attic on Saturdays for a bath, after returning home from the Barber Shop! What ever the women were to have done, which included shinning his shoes for Sunday morning, was on his checklist! I would watch in awe, as this structure was so new to me. I remember telling him "Mr. Flagg, these women need a driver's license! What would happen if you were unable to drive !" He just smiled; and, within a few years, they all were driving! May this gentle giant rest in peace; and, may the reflection on these commendables, bring comfort to the family. Bernard Clay, Atlanta
I had the honor to help care for Mt. Flagg for about 6months. I will treasure that time I got to spend with him, Miss Genora and Iris always. He would always sing Jesus Loves me and In the Garden for me in which I was always in tears by the end. Celebrating that Mr. Flagg is now home in Heaven and Praying for the family during this time. He will be greatly missed!
I shined shoes at "the shop" 57 years ago and Mr. Flagg cut my hair until I left for college. He was a wonderful person who made a difference in my life and I will miss him. My condolences to Mrs. Flagg and family.
He was my father's best friend
Deacon Benjamin Franklin Flagg was longtime chairman of Deacons at the Corinthian Baptist Church of Nashville TN. He was a tremendous servant of the Lord at Corinthian Baptist Church over seventy years. I am amongst the proudest pastors in the whole wide world.I could write a book on the value of men like Benjamin Flagg to our community. Benjamin Franklin Flagg will never be forgotten by Corinthian Baptist Church as our church has designated every third Sunday in July as Benjamin Franklin Flagg Annual Day at Corinthian. I remember his favorite scripture as Psalm 37 Fret not yourself because evildoers.
The previous entry was from Eldred Taylor M.D.
Mr. Flagg was my father's the late Rev. Moses Taylor best friend. The Flagg family has been a friend of the Taylor's for my entire life. When I was in Nashville he always cut my and my brother's hair for free. We feel like we have lost a member of our family. The Flaggs made sure they were there to show support when my father, my mother and my sister passed away. Please know that we loved Mr. Flagg and will always remember what he meant to the Taylor family.
I will miss Uncle Benjamin. He lived a prosperous life, He was a pillar of the community and well respected. A former military man (ARMY) and a professional barber. People were protective of Uncle Benjamin and ensured that no harm came to him. His barbershop was in a rough neighborhood and he was only robbed once. He initially drove a Studebaker, then a Pontiac Grand Prix then a Volvo then a Jaguar. He was a CLASSY GUY and indeed a GENTLEMAN. He was close to my Father and they seemed to be "best friends." Aunt Genora is his devoted wife and he certainly loved his daughters Janet and Iris. A wise man who was down to Earth. Uncle Benjamin served Corinthian Baptist Church in numerous capacities over the years. He was a tireless individual who stayed busy. I recall seeing him in Kroger (Charlotte Pike)...grocery shopping on Monday mornings...back in the day. He told me I would have to work hard all of my life and I told him I wouldn't (lol).Uncle Benjamin is now at an ETERNAL destination where we have yet to arrive. Now that he has crossed the bar...we must loose him and let him go. There is a brighter side somewhere and surely Uncle Benjamin call walk around HEAVEN all day. "Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way" (Booker T. Washington). Respectfully submitted by: Artemus Flagg, Ph. D. of Charlotte, North Carolina.
