Obituary For Annie "Peggy" Stephens
Annie “Peggy” McLeod Stephens was born to William McLeod and Emma Spence McLeod on May 9, 1937, in Harnett County, NC. She departed her life on August 16, 2026, at her home. She was educated in Wake and Harnett County schools.
She worked for Lufkin for 25 years. She was also employed by Universal Polymer and Kendall Diaper Factory in Fuquay-Varina.
She was an active member of St. Augusta Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Mother's Ministry. She was also active in Sunday school and Wednesday Night Bible study. She was a member of the Ladies Council Club. She was active in our school PTA. She loved her church and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Spence McLeod and William; stepmother, Maggie McLeod; sisters, Mamie Sue Lyon and Andrea (Mary Sue) Cox; and brothers, William and James (Weaver) McLeod.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jasper Stephens.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Annie (Lee) Council, Mary Laster, and Judy Israel; one son, Joseph (Melinda) Stephens of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Stacie Laster, Brian Stephens, Mark McCullers, Brandi (Kevin) Mills, Joey (Lisa) Stephens, Brittany Stephens, Latonya (Romel) Stephens, Kayla Stephens, Antonio Meredith, Sandy Mitchell, and Junior McNeil; great grandchildren, Khalaya Stephens, Christopher (Beyonce) Cencelewski, Daishawn Modeste, Xavier Stephens, Keaira Stephens, Amora Mitchell, Carter Stephens, Zymir Stephens, and Riley Ann Mills; a sister, Tonida Ree McLeod Cradle of Fayetteville, NC; brothers, David McLeod of Harrisburg, PA and Jerry McLeod of Michigan; sister-in-law, Dazelle Jones, Catherine Worley of Philadelphia, PA, Dolley Stephens of Flint, MI, Josephine Stephens of Richmond, VA, and Joycelyn Stephens of South Carolina; two special cousins, Jimmy Stewart and Bertha Brunsons; and a host of nieces, and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. The family would like to acknowledge Essie McDougal, a family friend, and her cousin, Patricia Jones Edward.
Public Viewing: 1:00 - 6 :00 pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
Visitation: 10:30 - 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. Augusta MB Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at St. Augusta MB Church, 605 Bridge Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
Burial: Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street in Raleigh, NC 27603.

I remember back in the day when Mrs. Peggy, Mrs. Jewel Battle and my aunt Mrs. Luvertis McNeil were the best of friends. I would fondly call them "the 3 Musketeers".
