Clifton Ray "Skeet" Underwood was born on June 2, 1960, in Wake County, North Carolina, to Willie Underwood and the late Lois Louise Utley Underwood. He entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Clifton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary "Missy" Underwood and his mother, Lois Louise Utley Underwood.
Clifton was the fifth child born to Willie and Lois Underwood. He attended and graduated from Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina. Throughout his life, Clifton was known as a hardworking man who took great pride in what he did and in the people around him.
He worked at Almay in Apex, North Carolina, for many years, where he formed lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact on those he worked alongside. He later dedicated more than 20 years of his career to Van Products in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served as a Senior Commercial Lead Technician and Trainer. Clifton's knowledge, skill,
and willingness to help others made him someone his coworkers could always depend on. He took pride in his craft and never hesitated to share his knowledge or lend a helping hand.
Clifton joined Douglas Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age. Hе believed in God and carried his faith with him throughout his life. To his family and close friends, Clifton was known as "Skeet." His love for his family and the bond he shared with them were truly one of a kind. Skeet was the kind of person who showed up when you needed him. Whether he was helping with a project, fixing something, lending a hand, sharing a laugh or simply being there, he had a way of making people feel cared for and supported.
He was known for his impeccable style, warm spirit, quick sense of humor and ability to make just about anyone feel like family. Skeet had a special way of making people feel like they were his "cuz," and his love extended far beyond his immediate family. He built relationships that lasted a lifetime and created memories that will continue to bring smiles and laughter even in his absence.
Clifton leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind years of love, laughter, lessons, family traditions, inside jokes and countless moments that will be treasured forever. His presence was a gift to the people who knew him and his impact will continue through the lives of those he loved.
Clifton leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Whitney Underwood and Anita Adams; four grandchildren, Jaylene McLaurin, Jada Harris, Jahari Harris, and Lauren Harris; his father, Willie Underwood (Mary); brothers, Daniel Underwood (Gail), Willie G. Underwood (Hilda) and Tony Underwood (Sheryl); sisters, Brenda Davis, Debra
Underwood, Gail Fort (Fletcher) and Carol Harris, along with a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, Clifton's love, laughter, wisdom and spirit will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, siblings, family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
Rest peacefully, Clifton Ray "Skeet" Underwood.
