Our mom, Dora Mae Utley Harris, was born April 8, 1936, in Wake County to the late Aaron and Goldie Utley. God gave her eternal rest as she slept peacefully at home on Monday, May 20, 2024.
Mom attended schoools in Wake County and graduated from Garner High School in Garner, NC, where she enjoyed attending her alumni functions, which was where she started her many travel adventures. She would go on to enjoy many years at The University of North Carolina Greensboro, where she would retire, but she left a lasting impression and kept the wonder friendships until her last days here with us. One of those special friendships she held dear to her, was of Ms. Felicia.
Mom was married to the love of her life, our dad, for 62 years, the late Horace E. Harris who preceded her in death. From this union was born Marcus E. Harris, Stephon L. Harris, who preceded her in death, Monique Harris Donnell, and Kandra Harris-Lewis.
Mom accepted Christ at an early age, and upon moving to Greensboro NC, she joined Mount Zion serve Baptist Church, where she participated in the walk from Spencer St. to Alamance Church Rd. Mom served diligently at Mt. Zion attending Sunday School regularly, Senior Adult Ministry, volunteering with Vacation Bible School, and the usher board.
Her greatest pastime was walking, and boy could she outwalk us all. Mom was also an avid traveler, sending her around the world. From many cruises to name a few, Italy, Hawaii, Bahamas, Spain, France, and Nevada.
Mom was the youngest of seven siblings. Lee, Blanche, Florance, Alice, Helen, Irene, and Louise, who all preceded her in death.
Mom left to cherish her memory, Delorse Graham of many years, Norma Jean Martin, and Alta Raines to name a few of her beautiful friends, as well as her beautiful church family. She leaves her children, sister-in-law Ara Gaynell McMullen of Washington, DC, sister-in-law Margaret Harris of Clarksville Tennessee, her son-in-law Ron Donnell, of Greensboro,NC, grandchildren: Stefon, Justin, Jessica, Joshua, Ronnie (RJ), Andre (Dre), Raven, Kennedy, Denim, Ale'na and Christian (Alex), six great grand and many nieces and nephews.
