As a child, I remember how my mother would look forward to our annual family reunion, especially knowing that her brother Sherman and his wife, Aunt Doris, would be coming to Rockingham, North Carolina. I can still remember the joy and excitement of watching them reunite, laugh, reminisce, and share stories about their childhood. There was something special about those moments. The love, laughter, and togetherness made everything feel right. That was family in its purest form.

Over the years, we have said goodbye to so many loved ones who helped hold our family together. Aunt Doris was one of the last remaining threads of that special bond, a piece of the glue that kept generations of our family connected. Her passing reminds us not only of how much we have lost, but also of how blessed we were to have experienced such a strong foundation of family and love.

While our hearts are heavy as we mourn Aunt Doris, I find comfort in knowing that the memories, traditions, laughter, and love of the Ellerbe family will never die. They live on through each of us, through the stories we tell, and through the love we continue to share.
