Elizabeth Stacey Powell Byrd was born July 15, 1936, in Wake Country to the late Briggs Powell and Leona Dixon Powell. Elizabeth departed this life on
June 29, 2026.
Elizabeth joined New Providence Baptist Church at an early age. She served on the Usher Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Ministry and was a Sunday School Teacher. Elizabeth loved her family and her church, and most of all she loved the Lord.
Elizabeth graduated from Garner Consolidated School, Garner, North Carolina and Holding Technical Institute, Raleigh, North Caolina.
Elizabeth worked for 35 years at Allstate Insurance Company and later worked for five years at Walmart until retirement.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Herndon. Elizabeth leaves to cherish warmest and fondest memories of a life well spent in service to God … five children, Deana Di Malanda (Maurice) of Matthews, North Carolina, Angela Byrd of the home, Michael Herndon of the home, Gregory Byrd (Quatrima) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Donna Herndon of Willow Springs, North Carolina; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
God made lots of beautiful things, sunsets and roses, and trees, birds, and moonlight and loyal friends. After he made all these, He gave the earth the gift of Mothers, most loving and true. We thank God for our Mother! Sleep on Mother and take your rest. We loved and took care of you, but God loves you best.
