Obituary For James Yates
James Yates was born to Novie Ivan Yates on July 14, 1954. He transitioned from this earthly life on February 9, 2026, at his residence in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
James Edward Yates, also known as Herbie, graduated from Garner High School. He was known to be stubborn, witty and was an excellent auto mechanic. Now everyone who knew that he loved his life and enjoyed his favorite drink. James was the father of four children, Wanda Evans (Clayton, NC), Brian and Lakisha Yates (Holly Springs, NC), Jermaine and Amiee Yates (Fuquay-Varina, NC) and Traci and Patrick Sammons (Harlem, GA).
While traveling through this life, we may not fully understand our love language. However, through patience, understanding and actions, Charity and Love will always prevail in time.
James had the greatest love in his heart for his grandchildren, and his actions truly gave justice to his quote: My kids accuse me of having A FAVORITE CHILD. Which is ridiculous!!! because MY SIXTEEN GRANDCHILDREN AND THREE GREATGRANDS ARE MY FAVORITES….

The Yates Family is truly thankful for the time he dwelled with us on this earth. The memories of his presence will never be forgotten. The family would like to share some of his familiar sayings: "So come on with ya, come on”. And then he would follow up with “that ain't the point”.
James also has a special love for his four siblings… Doug Yates who preceded him in death, Wayne Yates (Raleigh, NC), Larry Yates (Holly Springs, NC) and Larry and Sherri Yates (Louisburg, NC) and the host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.

Funeral will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
Burial: Starlight Memorial Gardens, Lois Lane in Holly Springs, NC 27540.
