Obituary For Jura Kromah, Jr

With profound sorrow, the Kromah, Sua, Dunzo, Thomson, Robertson, Nyamato, Sirleaf, Sherman, and Autry families announce the passing and homegoing of our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Jura Musa Kromah II, who departed this life on December 29, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Born on May 23, 1965, in Yekepa, Liberia, Jura was the cherished son of Jura Musa “GM” Kromah, Sr. and Martha Sua. He was preceded in death by his father, Jura Musa “GM” Kromah, Sr.; his stepfather, William “Bill” Autry, Jr.; his godparents, Foleh “G4” Sherman and Nancy Sherman; and many beloved relatives and friends.

Jura was a generous soul who believed life was best lived together — sharing laughter, meals, and stories that made everyone feel at home. He truly met no stranger; his warm smile and open heart welcomed all as family. A devoted father and steady presence, he was always the first to show up when someone needed a hand.

Jura leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Mrs. Martha Sua Autry; his beloved children, Jura III, Joelle, Jana, Jasmine, and Jonathan; and their mothers, Martha Robertson and Maureen Nyamato. He is also survived by his dear aunt, Tata Kromah; his stepmother, Verity Thomson Kromah; and his many brothers and sisters — Maima, Phanta, Marie (Abdul), Mawah, Bindu, Charmain (Abhisar), Ahmed, Phanta Janice (Simon), Siaka (Meatta), Fumba (Brandy), and Maduyan (Matthew). He is further survived by his God-sister and God-brother, Folita and Varney, who shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories with him. He also leaves behind his special friend, Love Korvah, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.

To the block, Jura was the “neighborhood dad” — always present, always caring, and always ready with a good story. To the Raleigh-Durham community, he was known as the affordable Liberian mechanic, and to the RDU recreational basketball club, he was affectionately called “Ju” or “Juju.”

Life and Legacy

Jura grew up in Lamco, Yekepa, Nimba County, Liberia, where he attended E-School, B-School, and Carroll High School, playing basketball under the nickname “J-Funk,” inspired by Julius “Dr. J” Erving. His love for cars — a gift passed down from his father — became his lifelong profession.

After immigrating to the United States in 1987, Jura studied Business Administration at Prairie View A&M University and participated in the ROTC program. He later became a certified auto mechanic, a career he proudly pursued for more than 35 years, building lasting friendships across Texas, North Carolina, and beyond.

His legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the community he nurtured, and the love he gave without measure.

Visitation: 9:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church in Raleigh, NC.

Funeral will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1629 Bennet Street in Raleigh, NC 27604.

To the Kromah family. Your loss is our loss. My Mandingo brother, my lovely Mandingo brother! Words cannot express the pain. May God be with you all. He just called me Christmas Eve and I meant to call him back. He was truly loved and always had a way of making people laugh. It was definitely difficult staying mad at him. Siaka and family, PLEASE have my deepest sympathy and may God mend your hearts.

Mr. J, May you rest in peace sir! My deepest condolences to the family and friends!

Favorite past time growing up was you would take us to a park on Saturdays to play basketball, it meant so much to us back then. I remember you and Ahmed taught me how to skin a deer, just some memories I will forever cherish! Truly an amazing figure to the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, rest easy big dog!

I'm deeply saddened by Jura's passing. We grew up in the same community and went to the same high school, sharing many memories along the way. Jura was one of the best players on our basketball team, but even more than that, he was humble, kind, and full of life. He had a joyful spirit and an easy way of connecting with everyone he met. He will be truly missed and always remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

I send my deepest condolences to the entire family. Oh, Mr. you will be missed dearly. I remember the last time you fixed my car and joked about me following you to every job with my Kia. You were such a funny man, always with a joke up your sleeve. May you rest in peace with our Heavenly Father.
