Marvin “Bobby” Johnson was born on April 18, 1937, in Wake County, NC to the late Otha Cleveland and Erma Allen Johnson. He departed this life on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones.
He graduated from Fuquay Consolidated School in Fuquay Springs, NC. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Fuquay Varina, where he served as a trustee, on the kitchen committee, sang in the male chorus along with other church duties. On October 2, 1960, Marvin Johnson married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Mary Lenora Thomas. To this union a daughter, Felecia Denise Johnson was born on June 5, 1964.
He started out working as a sharecropper with his dad. He then found work at Universal Polymer in Fuquay Varina. Marvin searched for a better position and found it working at Almay Cosmetics in Apex, NC. While working at Almay, he joined the Apex Police Department. He was there from 1964 to 1974 ranking as sergeant. When Almay Cosmetics, currently known as Revlon, moved to Oxford, NC, his position was retired. At that point, Marvin started his own business becoming the owner and operator of Johnson Home Improvement. He enjoyed expressing his vision related to the beautification of homes/buildings. He had a true love for people and it was said that “he never met a stranger.” That love led to him and Lenora starting their Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner. His love for cooking and hosting kept this going for 25+ years.
On October 22, early that morning God heard a voice saying I am ready to come home. God heard his voice and knew his heart. God positioned Lisa, Ken, Brandy and his sister Mary Ann to be in place. He granted us two hours to express our love to him. At 12:50pm, we gave Daddy his last kisses and whispers of love in his ear. At 1pm, God summoned Lenora to the entrance of Heaven’s Gates to welcome the love of her life with open arms.
Marvin was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Mary Lenora Thomas, his son Dock Jones III, his siblings, Garland “Buddy” Johnson, Ruby Mae Street, Wilbert “Bill” Johnson, Annie Ruth Leach, Katie Lee Watson, Asleen “Boochie” Carrington, Christine Carrington, Otha Johnson, Jr and Otis Lee McLean.
Marvin leaves to cherish his memory: his daughters, Felecia Johnson Smith (Charles), Brandy Lawrence, Veronica Jones, and Joyce Turner; grandsons Kenneth Smith and Camron McNeil; granddaughter Lyric McLean; great-grandsons Ny’Julian Loveless and Cameron Elliott; great-granddaughter Sarah Wheeler; sister Mary Ann Greene; brother Leroy Osborne (Bettina); brothers-in-law Clyde Cofield and Eddie Lee McLean; sisters-in-law Janice Evans, Maxine Thomas, Margaret Johnson, Rev Laverne Cofield. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Special cousin Sam Johnson and favorite nephew Ricky Leach. His hearts Tootsie Carrington, Amanda Johnson, Jamie Vane, and Glenda McDougal.
