Rev. John Stanley Davis, Jr., whom gained his wings, was born on December 30, 1966 to the late John S. Davis Sr. and Pearl Moore Davis in a home in Aurora, NC. He departed this life on December 1, 2021 at WakedMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC. At an early age John joined St. Hooker Baptist Church. He sang in a gospel group The Interdenominational Community Choir and learned how to play the piano and drums. John attended the public schools systems in Beaufort County North Carolina. While in his years in high school, he played basketball and football. During halftime he would change out of his football uniform and change into his band uniform where he was a percussionist.
He attended Elizabeth City State University in 1985 and pledged in the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in 1986 and graduated with a BS degree in Biology in 1990. It was in 1989 on the campus of ESCU where he saw and met a small petite young lady Stephanie Sears who he saw walking across the yard to Bias Hall and told his fraternity brothers, “there goes my future wife.” With much persisting and persuading, they dated but she made him wait 5 years and they got married on January 15, 1994. During their union, they had 3 beautiful daughters.
John worked for Bayer Pharmaceuticals in Clayton, NC for many years. He also worked for the City of Raleigh at the Water Treatment Plant. It was then that he decided to venture out on his own and work for himself, starting his own landscaping business. In 2012, he decided to go back to school at Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, NC, where he earned an Associate Degree in Heating and Air while taking on jobs in heating and air. It was truly his passion and craft following in the footsteps of his father. He really took care of his clients, especially the elderly and his churches.
John’s other passion and gift was playing the keyboard. He played for various churches in Johnston County. He played the keyboard at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Wake Forest, NC, where he became a Deacon and then became an Ordained Minister in 2013. Up until his death, he was an Associate Minister and Minister of Music at Ledge Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. He also served as the President of the Men’s Ministry as well as the President of the Food Pantry Ministry.
Rev. John Davis, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories, his lovely wife Stephanie Sears Davis of 27 years, three daughters, Jhane (pronounced Ja-Nae) Davis 27, Jaslyn Davis 24, and Joelle Davis 14.
