James Gibson was born to Doris Reid on November 15, 1962 in Salisbury, NC. The seventh of Doris’s 8 children, James was lovingly referred to as Ba’y Boy by his siblings and later as Uncle Ba’y Boy by his many nieces and nephews. James was educated in the Rowan County School system and graduated from South Rowan High School before enlisting in the US Army. James served honorably in Germany and Bosnia before retiring in 2002.
James enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping. He was always willing to pack up his deep fryer to fry fish, chicken, and turkey for functions and family gatherings. He especially enjoyed spending time with his “Grandbuddy” and documenting their adventures on social media.
James was preceded in death by his mother Doris Reid, his sisters Annette Reid and Gwendolyn Reid Gregory, his brother Tony Reid, and nephew Keith Reid.
We who are left to cherish his memories are his wife Lynn Gibson of Fuquay-Varina, daughters Shatarra Gibson of Raleigh and Shawna Gibson of Winston-Salem, grandson Xavier Williams of Raleigh, sisters Phyllis Reid of Salisbury, NC., Mildred Gibson of Myrtle Beach, SC., Jacqueline Gibson of Charlotte, NC., his brother Marcus Gibson of Salisbury, NC and many nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters in arm, family friends and neighbors.
To those of you, our friends, our family, battle buddies, and fellow adventurers who share in our time of sorrow, we thank you for your love and support. Thank you for being a part of the laughter, the memories, and even the struggles. James is at peace and is free from pain. He would want us to celebrate his victory and the life he lived because he lived it to the fullest. May you all enjoy life as he did.

My sincere condolences to you and the family. May the memories of your life together bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal ❤️❤️❤️
Praying for your peace and comfort. I met James as a member of the Retired Signal Soldiers Association (RSSA). James, Henry Davis, and myself enjoyed breakfast together after a meeting. I then learned about all his of health concerns and challenges. The greatest joy was sharing how he and his wife enjoyed camping and fishing. This man was living a more fulfilled life than those of great health. RIH Brother
