Stevie “Steve” Daniel Dockery, affectionately known to his loved ones as “Scoot,” entered the world on September 12, 1971, in Raleigh, NC. Born to Ben Dockery Jr., and Portia Leach Dockery, he grew up surrounded with love and was raised by a village that
included his three older siblings and his aunt Abigail. From very early on, Steve moved to the beat of his own drum and brought a sense of adventure to each day of his life. He could never sit still, and as a young kid he would always be found taking things apart
and putting them back together again in order to understand how they worked. This turned out to be his unique gift that grew into a passion for mechanical engineering. Over the years, he continued to learn and grow his skill sets in this area until he got to the point where he could build or fix just about anything. He became the person that his friends, family, and eventually his own father would go to for help fixing their cars, trucks, bikes, etc.
In 1990, Steve graduated from Cary High School and began his career in mechanics. During this time, he continued to lean into his gift and expand his education by obtaining numerous automotive
certifications. Shortly after this period, Steve joined the family business of trucking. A few years later, he made the decision to combine his entrepreneurial spirit with his passion for mechanical engineering to start his own company, Steve Dockery Trucking. For
15 years, he went on to have a fulfilling career running his company and hauling loads all across NC and the surrounding states. He loved to point out to people when he passed a site that he hauled logs or
dirt from, which included many of the recent developments across the triangle area.
Family was everything to Steve, and in 2010, he was able to start one of his own when he married the love of his life, Lisa. At that time, he became a bonus dad to his daughter, Siarra, and in 2012 welcomed his first-born son into the world, Justin. Steve worked hard to provide and be present for his family, sometimes hauling loads from one end of the state to the other within a 12-hour span just to avoid spending an evening away from home. He was always looking
for ways to create memories with his family, and nothing made him happier than when he could incorporate them into activities he loved, like taking his family to car shows, riding out to bike week with his wife and brother, or taking his son to the racetrack.
Steve never met a stranger and was easily able to hold conversations and build relationships with anyone, and he had a way of making everyone feel like his favorite. He was someone many people in his
life depended on, and he always brought a fun and jovial energy into every room he entered—typically accompanied by silly jokes and his distinctive laugh. In his later years, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, building and fixing trucks, race cars, and
motorcycles, taking road trips with his wife in his corvette, going go-carting with his son, cooking for family and friends on his hibachi grill, watching shows with his daughter, and taking naps
in his “man cave” with his grand-dog, Tigger.
Steve will always be remembered as a loving, hardworking, generous, and affectionate husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly by all those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; children, Siarra and Justin; siblings, Benny, Cindy, Sharon, Eric (Shantwon), Ashley, Brittany, and his “Sister-Niece,” Ashlee; aunt, Bobbie; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces,
grand-nephews, his mother-in-law, and other extended family.
