Obituary For Venie Merri Weather

On December 28, 2023, Venie Theodore Merri Weather, Sr. exchanged time for eternity at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, after a battle of major illnesses. He was 83 years of age.

Venie Theodore Merri Weather Sr., a former resident of New York and Danbury, Connecticut, and current resident of Willow Spring, North Carolina., was born on November 23, 1940, in Belleglade, Florida. Venie was the late son of Leonard and Lucille Weather Sr. in 1942, the family relocated to Utica, New York where he attended Utica Free Academy. Venie held multiple titles including: Owner/chef of V& M Catering. Trolley Driver, General Contractor, and Fire Marshall. Venie also served as a foster parent for over 14 years caring for 21 children during that course of time. During the Christmas holiday, Venie and Sylvia would dress up as Mr. & Mrs. Clause and gift the less fortunate. As a dog lover, Venie also considered his dogs Reign and Noelle to be members of his family.

Venie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a dedicated member of Christ Fellowship Church in Raleigh, North Carolina where he also sung in the choir.

In 1961, Venie was united in holy matrimony with Mary L. Walker Weathe-Williams and bore four beautiful sons; Venie (Ruth) Weather Jr., of Sacramento, California; Ozell Weather Sr., of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rev. Paul (Contrina) Weather Sr., of Indianapolis, Indiana. Venie also leaves to cherish one daughter, Evelyn (Kenneth) Williams of Redding, California.

Venie leaves to cherish 25 grandchildren- Venica (Melvin), Venie III (Margarita), Shawn, LaTisha, Starr, Kenneth, Shawn, Corrina (Titus), Paul Jr., Troy Jr., Amber, Anthony Sr. (Aysia), Ozell Jr. (Claudia), Javious, JaLeisa (Nicholas), Austin, Janee Chantel (Charles), DeMarkis, Angel, Elwood, Antonio, Gregory, Amani, Anthony Dewayne Jr., and a host of great-grandchildren.

In 1985, he married Sylvia Weather, and adopted two children, Franklyn and Vanessa Weather. Venie is survived by his wife Slyvia Weather of Willow Spring, North Carolina, two bonus daughters - Stacey Haggood and Stephanie Guthrie; three bonus grandchildren - Danya (Eric), Kaysie (Maurice), and Chelsea; and six bonus great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish two brothers Dr. Leonard Weather Jr. and Leon Weather and one sister Evaline (C. D.) Glin. He is preceded in death by his two brothers Odom Weather and Ozell Weather Sr. Venie also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
