Obituary For Vincent E. Cassell
With profound love and heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life of Vincent Everette Cassell, a beloved son, brother, uncle, Paw Paw, and adventurer whose laughter and zest of life touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Vincent departed this earthly life on August 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, adventure and unforgettable memories.
Born on June 11, 1952, Vince was the beloved sone of the late Waverly R. Cassell and Nettie “Pearl” Trice Cassell. From an early age, Vince developed the adventurous spirit and appreciation for the outdoors that would remain a defining part of his life. He graduated from Deep Creel High School in 1970 and went on to honorably serve his country in the United State Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1976.
Following his military service, Vince built a respected career as a professional welder, dedicating many years to his craft before retiring. His strong work ethic, determination, and ability to work with his hands reflected the character he carried throughout his life.
But to truly know Vince was to know that his greatest adventures happened beyond the workplace. He possessed a deep and abiding love for the outdoors. An avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and adventurer. Vince found joy in the places where he could enjoy nature and share time with the people he loved. Hunting was more than a pastime it was bond that connected him to the father, his nephew, his cousins, and generations of family traditions.
Vince was one of the youngest members of the Nimrod Hunting Club. Followed by the Chucatuck Hunting Club and Winton Hunting Club, where his love of hunting became part of a lifelong community of friendship, fellowship, and adventure. Whether sitting in the woods waiting patiently for the perfect shot or spending time on the water fishing, Vince knew how to find happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
His interests extended well beyond hunting. Vince enjoyed snow skiing, gardening, and caring for an abundance of household plants, bring the same enthusiasm to each of his passions. He was also a devoted sports fan and a loyal supporter of the Miami Dolphins.
And then there was NASCAR. Vince loved the speed and unmistakable roar of the racetrack. He was a die-hard Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan, proudly cheering for the legendary driver of the No. 3 car. The excitement of Charlotte Motor Speedway was something he truly appreciated, and his passion for NASCAR was simply another reflection of the adventurous spirit that made him who he was.
Vince was also a man of faith and service. Divine Baptist Church was his childhood family church, where his foundation of faith and fellowship began. As a child and young adult served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. As an adult, he became a member of First Baptist Church South Hill.
Vince's impact was never limited to one role or one place. He had an incredible ability to make people feel comfortable, welcome, and entertained. His sense of humor was unmistakable. His sarcasm could arrive without warning, and his laughter has a way of making its way into every room. Vince possessed genuine joy for life and for human connection, and he, and he had a gift for creating memories wherever he went.
To his family, Vince was so much more than the sum of his accomplishments and interests. he was Paw Paw. He leaves to cherish his memory of his beloved granddaughter, Sequoia Moore, and her three children, Rohmaynce Moore, Rhoyalti Moore, and Amiri Moore.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Sharon C. Robinson of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; nephew, Brandon Robinson (Johnae) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; great-nieces, Reese Robinson and Rory Robinson; niece, Alexandria Robinson of Durham, North Carolina; goddaughter, Tiffany Trice; and God-sister, Marsha Ann Foster (Jimmy).
Vince's family extended far beyond those connected to him by blood. He shared a special bond with cousins who were more like brothers to him: Carl Trice, Kenny Bly, Sr., and Edward Cuffee. He was also blessed with a lifelong best friend, Bruce Burwell, whose friendship stood as a testament of the lasting connections Vince cultivated throughout his life.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Waverly E. Cassell and Nettie “Pearl” T. Cassell; and his grandparents, Norman Trice & Susie Trice, and Arthur Cassell & Inez Cassell.
Public viewing: 12:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Berkley Chapel, 120 W. Berkley Avenue in Norfolk, VA 23523.
Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 pm on Monday, August 31, 2026, at First Baptist Church South Hill, 3633 Galberry Road in Chesapeake, VA 23323.
Public North Carolina Viewing at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay Varina, Monday August 31, 2026, at 6:30pm-8:00 pm & Tuesday September 1, 2026, 9:00 am -1:00 pm
Final Rest will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday September 1, 2026, at Starlight Memorial Gardens 74 Lois Lane in Holly Springs NC.

As young boys 6, 7, 8 yrs old living across the street from each other, Vincent and I were constantly at each other's throats "but God," turned us into lifelong friends! Vince worked with me for about 7 years. He and I became real good friends. His personality was over the moon. Always up for a laugh. Not only did he work with me, he hunted with me. We became brothers from different mothers. As long as I am alive, he will occupy a special place in my heart!! I LOVE you Vince and may you rest in peace 🙏
