Obituary For Virginia L. Carrington
VIRGINIA LUE CARRINGTON entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Virginia had a rare and beautiful gift: the ability to make every person she encountered feel genuinely loved. Her love was effortless, sincere, and without judgment. She did not measure people by their successes, failures, or circumstances. She accepted them just as they were, and somehow everyone left her presence feeling as though they were her favorite.
Her family cannot remember her lashing out in anger. Instead, she was known for her gentleness, kindness, patience, and quiet grace. Her presence brought comfort, her words brought encouragement, and her
loving spirit made people feel safe and welcomed.
Virginia fell in love with her beloved husband, Leroy Carrington, at the tender age of sixteen. As a young wife and mother, she was determined to keep her family together. She worked tirelessly, sacrificed freely, and devoted her life to caring for the people she loved. Her greatest joy was her family—her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the
generations that followed. She loved gathering everyone together and making each person feel deeply loved and always welcome in her home.
Virginia began working at Twin City Cleaners and later worked at Kendall Diaper Factory in Fuquay-Varina. After an automobile accident left her
unable to continue working, her employment came to an unexpected end, but her determination and caring spirit did not. She continued her education and proudly earned her GED through Wake Technical College on November 25, 1985.
Virginia found another way to serve others through her gift of baking. She became well known throughout her family and community for the
beautiful and delicious cakes she lovingly prepared. She made birthday cakes, chocolate cakes, carrot cakes, her beloved pound cakes, and countless other family favorites.
She especially loved seeing the excitement on people’s faces when they came to pick up one of her cakes. Her love could be felt in every cake she made. During the holidays, her kitchen was filled with the aroma of homemade desserts prepared for family, friends, neighbors, and church members. For Virginia, baking was never simply about making a cake—it was another way of making people feel celebrated, cared for, and loved.
Faith was the foundation of Virginia’s life. She first became a member of First Baptist Church of Fuquay-Varina. Later, alongside her beloved husband, cherished brother, and other faithful members, she helped establish Faith Missionary Baptist Church. They worked tirelessly to raise funds, purchase land, and help build the church from the ground up.
Faith Missionary Baptist Church became Virginia’s spiritual home, where she served faithfully for many years and developed lifelong friendships. As chairperson of the Kitchen Committee Ministry, she offered her time, talents, nurturing spirit, and loving care through every meal she prepared. In 2018, she was honored for her hard work, dedication, and
loving-kindness.
When Faith Missionary Baptist Church later dissolved, saying goodbye to her church family was deeply painful. She eventually found a new church home at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, where she was warmly welcomed and continued her faithful walk with God.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy Carrington; parents, Thomas Garrett and Grace Womble Garrett; son, Maynard Carrington; cherished brothers, Emory Garrett “PeeWee” and Billy Garrett; and special friend, Alberta Smith.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory of her children, Sharon Bailey (Carl) of Darby, PA, Theresa Evans (Tony) of Raleigh, NC, Darryl Carrington (Kathy), Alma Carrington, Anita Carrington, all of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Martha Ichugu (Samuel) of Cary, NC; twenty-six beloved grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandkids; surviving siblings, Betty Sue Richardson (Otis) of Clayton, NC, Carolyn Ockeltree, and Maurice Kimble of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sister in law, Carrie Garrett; special friends, Martha Clay and Joan Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, church family, neighbors, and dear friends.
Although every grandchild may not be listed individually, Virginia knew each of them, loved each of them, and carried them close to her heart. Her
love extended across every generation of her family.
To know Virginia Carrington was to know unconditional love. Her home welcomed people. Her table fed them. Her cakes celebrated them. Her faith encouraged them. Her gentle spirit made everyone feel seen.
She leaves behind a beautiful and lasting legacy of love, faith, service, hospitality, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to God and family. Her life was a blessing, her memory will remain a treasure, and the love she gave so freely will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

Memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 4813 Hilltop Needmore Road in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

My heart was so broken when I heard of the passing of Mrs. Virginia. She had such a sweet spirit. She was a loving person and would do anything for you if she could. She would cook all the Thanksgiving meals for Henry Wurst, Inc. Every one enjoyed her. She will truly be missed.

Mrs. Carrington, a Queen, a jewel and a woman who loves the Lord and his people. The love that she showed our family (The Barbee's) Priceless. Condolences to the Carrington and Garrett families. Jennie Lou was a beautiful lady inside and out. She always wore a beautiful smile. We were classmates at FCHS many years ago. We had one thing common a "Royal Blue Ink Pen. I don't know where it came from but we argued over the pen for quite awhile. The Teacher did not know who bought/found it. After much bickering, she solved the problem-put it in her desk drawer and locked it up, We laughed and remained friends there after. That was the prettiest and best writing pen. For many years every time we met we would laugh about that "Pen". Emma Sue you loved her, but God loved her best-just cherish her memories. RIP
