Wheeler W. Jones., (Jonesy) was born to Wheeler Jones, Sr. and Mary Alphine Hassell Jones on April 23, 1935, in Hertford, NC. He graduated from Perquimans County High School in (Hertford) in 1953.
After graduating high school, he moved to Summit, NJ to live with his grandmother, Louvinia Lynn. He moved to Brooklyn, NY and married Bernice E. Sharpe in 1954. From their union of 26 years, two children were born, Jeanne and Broderick. In 1959, he was drafted to the U. S. Army and served for 3 years. After returning from the military, he worked for CB Cotton for many years. Then he started working for NYC Transit Authority. He retired as a superintendent after working more than 30 years.
He married Brenda Caldwell on May 16, 1981, and they enjoyed retirement life, traveling, and cruising together until her death on April 18, 2020. he left Brooklyn, NY and moved to Indian Trail, NC to be closer to family.
Jonesy is preceded in death by his wife Brenda Jones, his sister, Ida Skinner, his brother Reginald Jones, and his son-in-law, Billy Jackson.
He leaves to mourn a daughter, Jeanne M. Jackson of Greenville, SC; a son, Broderick B. Jones (Karen) of Covington, GA; a grandson, Brandon Jackson (Sheana) of Greenville, SC; a granddaughter, Billisha Jackson of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Ollie M. Scudder of Portsmouth, VA, Mary H. Moore of Virginia Beach, VA, and Zebatrice Brandt (Calvin) of Gastonia, NC; four brothers, Melvin Joners of Hertford, NC, Erle L. Jones (Ruby) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Arthur L. Jones (Audrey) of Baltimore, MD and Rickey Jones (Tonnette) of Portsmouth, VA; five great grandchildren; a special friend, Ann Fagain; and a host of niece and nephews.
Funeral will be held 11:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Trice Funeral Home Chapel Church, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
Burial: The Evergreens Cemetery, 1629 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207.
Truly you're going to be missed by Billy, and I... Tabatha Billy's wife. Billy is going to miss your phone calls, your laugh, and your time spent together. You were a very important part of Billy's life...And a great uncle! We will keep your memory alive by remembering your kindness and thoughtfulness.
