Honoring the Life of Officer David Rose
On Friday, August 22, 2025, more than 1,500 people gathered at First Baptist Church of Atlanta to remember and honor the life of Officer David Rose. Family, friends, colleagues, and community members were joined by law enforcement officers from across metro Atlanta, the state of Georgia, and the nation.
The service opened with greetings from Major William Wallace and a welcome from DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, who also presented a proclamation officially recognizing August 22, 2025, as Officer David Rose Day in DeKalb County.
Speakers included Interim Police Chief Gregory Padrick, Lead Instructor Sergeant Trey Jones, and Officer Tahlia Cruz, who shared reflections from Officer Rose’s time in the 138th Academy Class. Additional remarks came from Police Chaplain Gregory Webb and guest speaker Rodney Flowers.
Musical selections by Denise’Ann Malcolm and pianist Asonye A. Morgan helped mark the ceremony’s key moments. A video tribute reflected on Officer Rose’s life, from childhood to his recent service with the DeKalb County Police Department.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp, U.S. Attorney Theodore Hertzberg, members of the Board of Commissioners, and leadership from the CDC and Emory University. A group of CDC employees also attended to honor Officer Rose’s actions during the CDC incident.
A formal presentation of the folded American flag was made to Officer Rose’s daughter by the DeKalb County Police Honor Guard. The ceremony concluded with final honors outside the sanctuary, including a 21-gun salute, Taps, a flyover, and the final call.
Officer David Rose’s life and service left a lasting impression on the community and the department. His legacy continues to be remembered with respect and gratitude.
