Jessie Bell Hammonds
Date of Birth: 12-27-1949
Date of Death: 01-12-2026
Place of Residence: Ellenwood, Georgia
Age: 76
Jessie Bell Hammonds, affectionately known as Mama Jessie, was born on December 27, 1949, in Duluth, Georgia, to the late Raleigh Bailey and Annie Lee Bailey. She peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on January 12, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by the love that defined her life.
Jessie dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at St. John Apostolic Holiness Church under the late Bishop C.E. White. She later joined Powerhouse of Deliverance Cathedral under the late Bishop Murphy J. Pace, where she continued to grow in faith and service. In her later years, she continued her service at Shekinah Glory Tabernacle under the leadership of Bishop Gregory Sherman, where she was a devoted Church Mother and Sunday School Teacher.
A woman of unwavering faith, Jessie was known as a mighty prayer warrior, intercessor, and Prophetess. She possessed the gift of healing through the laying on of hands and stood firmly on the Word of God. She had a deep heart for God’s people and for church leaders, and her prayers were both powerful and effective. Many knew her not only as a spiritual leader, but as a spiritual mother whose guidance, love, and prayers shaped countless lives.
Beyond her ministry and service, Jessie was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating Jessie’s Cleaning Service, a commercial and residential cleaning business. Through her work, she provided employment and opportunity to many, believing in dignity, hard work, and helping others provide for their families.
Family was the center of Jessie’s life. She was married for 52 years to her beloved husband, Eddie James Hammonds, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and open doors. If Jessie had a roof over her head, so did you. Holidays meant a house full of people, tables full of food, and love overflowing. She believed in spreading a feast with more than enough — and if you were especially dear to her, there would be a sweet potato pie with your name on it.
Jessie was a devoted mother to her children: Terrence Bailey, Susan Williams (Scotti), Trina Hammonds, and Derek Hammonds (Lashonda). Along with her husband, she also lovingly raised three nieces as her own: Tonya Simpson (Vincent), April Bailey (Shawnee), and Ashley Bell.
She was blessed with grandchildren: Trenesia Ware, Jared Hammonds, Eddie Hammonds, II, Shante Hammonds, Anisa Hammonds, Derek Hammonds, Jr., Deshon Hammonds, Sydney Hammonds, Alexia Hammonds, Alijah Hammonds, and Terrence Bailey, Jr.
In addition, she was lovingly surrounded by bonus grandchildren — Joshua Simpson, Amari Bailey, Azaria Bell, Zayvion Bell, and Jalia Allen — grandchildren she embraced and loved as her own.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her great-grandchildren: Trenton Ware, Tracie Dean, Leah Ware, Quiaris Dean, Khalil McClendon, Neah McClendon, and Angel Hammonds.
Jessie is survived by her loving sisters, Corrie Gray and Louise Thomas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, spiritual children, prayer partners, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh and Annie Bailey; her husband, Eddie James Hammonds; her great-granddaughter, Kasey McClendon; her sisters, Sarah Thomas, Christine Jordan, and Juanita McCray; and her brothers, Frank Horton, Sarge Bailey, and Tommy Bailey.
In celebration of Mama Jessie's Life and Legacy, the family welcomes flowers in honor of her love for gardening, beauty, and God's creation.
