Mr. Johnny Mack Rand
Johnny Mack Rand was born on April 2, 1958 in Buffalo, NY. And relocated to Georgia in 2008. He departed this life on November 12, 2021 in Covington, GA, to the late Carrie Helen Rand (Richardson) and Tommie Rand SR. He was the Fourth child of six. Johnny won several basketball trophies while playing on basketball teams throughout his whole life. He was educated while in the Buffalo Public School system and graduated from Bennett High School as class of 1977.
Johnny enlisted in the United States Navy on March 31, 1978, and served his country proudly as an Aircraft Mechanic Air Warfare Specialist. He received the following awards: Good Conducts 5th, Navy Unit Commendation 2nd, Sea Service Deployment 3rd, South West Asia with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Service 2nd, Navy Expeditions 4th, Navy Achievement Medal 2nd, Battle "E" NATO, Armed Forces Expeditionary and Meritorious Unit Commendation. After 20 years of honorable service, he retired on March 31, 1998. He then went on to work with Northrop Drumian in the Jacksonville FL area and eventually relocated to Covington GA in 2008, where he began his career at Georgia Department of Veteran Services. In the summer of 2017, Johnny began his employment at Georgia Tech in the Recycling Department, as a temporary service worker for a short period of time. And then promoted twice and was appointed to take care of the 1st self-efficient zero waste building on the campus. His personality fits right into the 10-person crew which consider themselves family instead of co-workers. Johnny's work ethics were superior including coming to work every day "Dressed to Impress" with a crisp ironed and creased uniform and "Spit Shined" boots. He was known and loved across the entire Campus.
Johnny is survived by his 5 children: Son and daughter in law Jerrel & Ashley Rand, Tonya Rand, Daughter and Son in law Queena & Don Powell of Lakeland, FL, Nigel Rand of Seattle, WA and Nadia Sims of Baltimore, MD. Sister Carolyn Brown, and Brothers and sisters in law Nathaniel and Sarka Rand of Seattle, WA, Howard and Linda Rand of Buffalo, NY, Bobby and Merceda Rand of Loganville, GA, and Carlton Rand of Buffalo, NY. And a host of 11 grandchildren, 7 nieces and 3 nephews, other relatives & friends. Aunts Victoria Killett of Brooklyn, NY and Carolyn Rand of Buffalo NY.

Oh Johnny!... just a good person. Johnny had purpose in everything he did! not only was his attire always crisp, Johnny loved crisp money! lol I worked with Johnny at Ga Tech. I once told said, " I like working with you Johnny" and he said, " I like working with you too James" it was a funny and lite moment. He made everything seem easy. Johnny was efficient! Him cursing at the republicans! It burned him up! lol and he loved that little baby boy! That was his pride! Dam!.... Gone,...but will never ever be forgotten!
