Mary Jean Wilburn Pitts was born on January 18, 1944, to the late Catherine Wilburn Norwood and the late Harvey Brown, Sr. Mary Jean was affectionately known as Toodie by her children, To To by her grandchildren, and Queenie by her friends. She grew up in Lithonia, GA, and attended Bruce Street School. Later in life, Mary Jean moved to Kirkwood (Atlanta, GA), where she made a living as a homemaker until she was diagnosed with Dementia. Anyone who knew her knew she loved singing, dancing, and listening to music, and that she could cook a mean Sunday dinner.
Mary Jean leaves to cherish her memories and laughter to her children: Vickie Y. Turner (Eunice), Charles A. Zachery (Dequita), Charkita Jordan (Kim), Kecha Cooksey, and Antonio L. Zachery, Sr., who preceded her in death. Three sisters: Sharon Brown, Monica Brown, and Gwen Brown Hammond. One sister, Shirley Jones, and one brother, Harvey Brown, Jr., who both preceded her in death. Fourteen grandchildren: Sacha Greene, Jevetta Jordan, Michael Jordan, Jr., Tanisha Shy, Kiana Zachery, Myia Height, Antonio Zachery, Jr. (Kim), DeShay Robinson, Antavius Zachery (Carlie), Antonie Zachery, Levonte Turner, Courtney Pannell, Aniya McGuire, and Kennedy Zachery. Fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength lives on in her family, who continue to share her compassion, humor, and unwavering support with everyone around them. Mary Jeanβs influence will forever guide and inspire those who knew her.
