Michael Martin 73, of 3661 Cape Lane, Conyers, Georgia departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 12, 2023, after courageously battling cancer. Michael was born in McCormick, South Carolina on August 19, 1950.
He was one of eleven children born to Robert Martin Sr., and Louise (Holloway) Martin. Michael graduated from Sharon High School, Sharon, Pennsylvania in 1970 and upon graduation enlisted in the US Navy and served
honorably during the Vietnam Era. He served two (2) years and was
awarded the National Service Medal. Upon discharge from the Navy, Michael returned to the Shenango Valley and was employed at Westinghouse Electric and Liquid Air Corporation. Michael was very ambitious and desired to have his own business. He successfully owned and operated "Mike's Hand Car Wash" for several years.
On November 19, 2000, he married Cheryll Gunn and together they owned and operated IMB Hair Braiding Gallery in Youngstown, Ohio. In 2006 Michael and his wife relocated to Georgia where Michael worked as a millwright and brazier. Michael continued his passion for business ownership starting up a small landscaping and window washing businesses.
Michael was a "jack of all trades"; he enjoyed handyman work,
refinishing furniture, carving/wood sculpturing and collecting artwork. Michael also enjoyed bowling, and co-coached the Cavs basketball team in the Rockdale County Youth Basketball League, but his favorite pastime was fishing. He was an avid fisherman and would spend most of his free time at various lakes and small ponds with his oldest brother Robert .
Michael leaves to cherish in his memory, his wife of twenty-seven
years together, Cheryll Gunn-Martin, his step-daughters, Karonna Hosey, Atlanta, GA., Jamesa Terrell (Purvis), Covington, GA., and a step-son, James Hosey Jr. (LeAnne), Maryland, and daughter, Dawn Pinkins, Farrell, Pa.
Four sisters, Geraldine Jones, Cypress Texas, Gail Martin, (Richard) Covington, GA., Linda Martin, (Roderick) Nashville, Tenn. and Selena Bell, (Ravanna) Lithonia, GA.
Five brothers, Robert Martin, Jr., Conyers, GA., John Martin (Tina)
Chesterfield VA, Ronald Martin, Lithonia, GA, Steve Martin, Peachtree Corners, GA, and Robert Earl Martin, Farrell, Pa. He also leaves a host of step grandchildren which he had a special bond with each and every one especially his "Boolie", Journey Sky Walker and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vivian
and Brother-in-Law, Sloan Jones.
