Coy Savannah Cunningham was born August 8, 1964, in Tryon, NC to Lorena Johnson Cunningham and the late Richard Cunningham Sr. He departed this life on Monday, June 6, 2022. He attended Tryon Elementary School and Tryon High School. He also attended Livingstone College. As a child he was a member of the Church of the Living God in Tryon, NC. As an adult he just attended church. Coy loved sports baseball, basketball and of course tennis. But tennis was his favorite, and he was an awesome tennis player. Coy’s true passion in life other than a nice glass of wine was cooking. He worked in many venues throughout his 35 years cooking career. Even though he didn’t have any children of his own he loved children. Some of his friends would probably credit him with helping raise their children. He was such an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Cunningham Sr., one brother, Tony Cunningham, two sisters, Helena Cunningham and Sharon Cunningham, his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandparents. He leaves to cherish his fond memories; his mother, Lorena Johnson Cunningham of Tryon, NC, four sisters, Aileen Crawford and Patricia Cunningham of Tryon, NC, Cindy Cunningham Thompson (Nathan) of Columbus, NC, Angela Cunningham Williams (Danny) of Inman, SC, two brothers, Calvin Cunningham of Charlotte, NC and Richard Cunningham of Wellington, Florida, too many nieces and nephews to mention and cousins galore, honorary brother Carlton Young. Coy had so many special friends from Tryon, Charlotte, Florida and Winston Salem, but Rod Fisher was his best friend, his confidant, his ride or die for thirty-eight years. He will be missed by many, but especially his family.
