Obituary For Mattie Brooks Sims

Mattie Brooks Sims of 205 Cooperline Road, Henrietta, NC, was born on June 27, 1935, in Ellenboro, N.C. to the late Rev. Ralph and Maggie Brooks. She departed this life at the age of 87 on December 20, 2022. Mattie joined Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and served faithfully. She graduated from Carver High School in 1954 where she played forward on the basketball team and participated in the Home Economics Club. Mattie married Frank Sims on January 2, 1956. They would have been married 67 years in January. She moved to Riverside, CA, and then to Los Angeles, CA where she worked for Sunset House. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mattie was slow to speak but spoke her mind. She was very agreeable and her aim in life was to never hurt anyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three of her siblings, Marion Randall, Mildred Banks, and Bill Brooks. Mattie leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Frank Sims, daughter: Selena Brooks, son: Michael (Lisa) Sims, grandchildren; Tyvaughn (Araceli) Ray, Tai Sheppard, Tashauna Brooks, Ashley Carline and Alexis Sims, great grandchildren; Aalon Payne, Aliyah Ray and Skyla Ray, siblings: Marie Love (Herbert) and Milton Brooks (Joann) and a host of family and friends.
