Reverend Fred Alfred Miller was born in Rutherfordton, NC on February 10, 1939. He was the youngest of twelve children to the late John and Carrie Miller. He departed this life on December 26, 2022, at the age of 83. Even as a young boy he was always a hard worker and family provider. Fred ended his schooling in the tenth grade to join the workforce to support his mother after his father’s untimely death. After his mother passed, he moved his family to New Jersey. There he worked diligently as an independent truck operator for nearly two decades. He used his financial gains from trucking to start his own business. Miller’s Beauty and Barber Supply which opened in June of 1983. It was the first black owned beauty supply store in Rutherford County, NC. He and his wife expanded the business from a store front rental to a self-owned independent building. In June of 1997 they began selling their own exclusive line of professional hair products, silky smooth, under FGM (Fred Geraldine Miller) products Inc. which is still in production and expanding to continue his legacy to this day. Fred cherished his family and enjoyed working his business, but above all he loved God. After accepting Jesus Christ as his savior in 1976, he remained a faithful servant. He began his journey in ministry at Aenon Baptist Church as a deacon for four years. Fred became an ordained minister on July eighteenth, 1984. He became the pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Morganton, NC where he served his congregation for ten years. Later he became a member of Gold Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, NC. Fred loved to study scriptures and spoke of the goodness of God whether he was at church or delivering products in the beauty salons and barber shops or at family gatherings. “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1: 16 Fred A. Miller was preceded in death by his eldest son, Freddie Miller, Jr. and grandson, Dr. Christopher Kaio. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of forty-five years, Gearldine W. Miller and their two children, Johnny Miller and Jennifer Evans (Lynden), his eldest daughter, Jeran Miller by his first wife, the late Teretha Miller, ten grandchildren, Thomas Kaio (Jamike), Gregory Logan (Monet), Gabrielle Logan, Germaine Bowie, Gerard Logan, Tyson Miller, Grace Johnson. Lauren Evans, Willie Johnson Jr., Gianna Chambers, and eight great grandchildren, Thomas Kaio Jr., Ta’Nya Kaio, Cole Logan, Allen Atkinson, Austin Atkinson, Amora Green, Aveah Green, Caylen Bowie, one brother, Albert Miller and one godson, Richard Folder, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
