Threatha Bennings (Price), “Reeky,” age 90 passed away, September 1, 2022.
She was a graduate of Grahamtown High School and received her Bachelor of Arts from the College of New Rochelle. She served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. Threatha touched the lives of many and was a true public servant, while working at the V.A. Hospital, U.S. Postal Service, Aging in America, Cardinal McCloskey Children and Family Services, and Dunbar Elementary School. Threatha’s talents were plentiful and her heart full of love as an author, activist, social worker, teacher, wife, mother, beloved grandmother, close friend, and active community member. As an active member in the community, she gave of her time and talents to the New Bethel AME Zion Church, African American Culture Museum, and in the advancement of the Grahamtown community. She was a true Historian at heart and felt the need to preserve Forest City’s history within her books, “Moving to Grahamtown,” and “Cracked Wheat.” She enjoyed Westerns, sneaking sweets with her granddaughters, collecting art, traveling to visit historical sites, visiting family, having meaningful conversations, giving advice, and making friends with whoever she met. Preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Price, sisters, Johnnie Mae Lynch and Helen Samuels. She is survived by sister Evelyn Williams; sons, Gary Willis, Lynn Willis; daughter, Monica Willis; eldest niece, Sherryl Lynch “Bebe,” granddaughters, Jada Willis and Nakia Willis and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services will be held at Ulysses Miller Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 2022. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am – 11:00 am and the Memorial Service will start promptly at 11:00 am and will end at 12:30 pm. Ulysses Miller Funeral Home is located at 85 Poors Ford Rd, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. The burial service will be held at 2:00 pm at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery located at 896 Old US 70 Highway, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

Remembering the Life of Mother Threatha Bennings
Mother Bennings was a member of Miracle Revival Temple for over 20 years. Mother Bennings served under the leadership of the Late Pastor Robert McNeal and Pastor Helene McNeal while living in New York City. Mother Bennings served in the U.S. Army with Pastor R.C. McNeal Jr.; their friendship was rekindled when they spotted each other on the New York City subway. From this reunion she became a member of the church family as well as a part of the McNeal Family. Mother Bennings was also the God Mother of Gwendolyn McNeal, the Pastor's daughter. She faithfully and diligently nurtured all five of the McNeal sister's spiritual growth. Mother Threatha Bennings memory will forever be embedded in our hearts.
