Cheryl Jamesetta Whitehead
Cheryl Jamesetta Whitehead was born on May 11, 1958, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Barbara Griffin Brown and the late James Reed. She was a graduate from Austin-East High School Class of 1976. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Cheryl had an infectious smile that everybody loved. She enjoyed gospel music, playing all kinds of games, drawing, sewing and singing, and above all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Cheryl departed this life on Monday, September 1, 2025. She is preceded in death by mother, Barbara Griffin Brown; father, James Reed; grandparents: Richard and Katie S. Griffin; niece, Shawntia Lasha Davis; nephew, Tori TaMont Griffin; and uncle, Alred Griffin.
She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Detrick (Natalie) Whitehead; daughter, Shawnta (Tron) Rogers; sisters: Katie Diane Griffin and Inga Shadden; brother, Danny McGhee; bonus sister, Serena (Chris) Holloway; grandchildren: Valencia Jarde’ Whitehead, Denashia Whitehead, Detrick Hicks, Ichon Rodgers, DeAngelo Mitchell, and Jerrell Hendricks; one great-grandson, Chosen Reed; nieces: Nya Shadden, Journey Louise, Jamani Watts, and Nytia Shadden; nephew, Jayce Watts; father of her children, Willie Whitehead; and special cousins: Saharah Bennett and Ye’Aire Wrispet.
Words cannot express how much Cheryl will be missed by her family and friends. So, rejoice that she is now resting at the feet of Jesus Christ, our precious Lord and Savior. There is a joyous reunion in Heaven because she has joined her loved ones who preceded her there. God Bless You, Our Dear One!
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14, 2025 from 2:30-3:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life Service to begin 3:00 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel.
